The Troves

The Troves are a slum based in the underground of Montheus Old Town. It is known to be the poorest area of Montheus.

History

The Troves where originally just a sewage system for the city but as the city grew some of these tunnels became obsolete and unused. The growth of the cities population meant many would be living on the streets and people started to take up residence in the depths of the abandoned tunnels for shelter. Overtime people began to burrow into the walls of the tunnels, creating hovels underground. This eventually resulted in the poorest people making their way into the troves.    Infamously, the residents of the Trove were put to the sword during The Bastard's Plague only for the soldiers who carried out the massacre to be culled in turn by the king.   During 737 ABA whispers of a desperate uprising came from the depths of the Troves. After the massacre ten years prior tensions had continued to escalate. When the peasent uprising began the tunnels where used to access seage systems and make their way into the royal quarter undetected until it was to late.

Points of interest

The is no reason for a sane person to go into the troves. However, there is one trade which is plentiful in the troves. The guards call it "Treasure hunting" in reference to visiting the dingy brothels in the depths of the Troves.

Architecture

The Troves are an underground tunnel system beneath the Old Town. It is poorly built and much of the cities sewage system runs through these tunnels. Many of the tunnels lead to small hovels carved into the hillside creating small warrens where the the most poorest live.
