The Shard

They say Rosier is still in the Shard, locked up in the pinnacle. Maybe we'll get a glimpse of him? - Ava Blackwood 1130 ABM

Purpose / Function

Formerly a place for study and learning, the Shard now acts as a prison tower for powerful magic beings who can not be kept prisoner in the normal prisons and dungeons of Enther.   The Shard also acts as a safe place for magical and dangerous artifacts, such as the The Demon Compendium.

Alterations

Since becoming a prison, many of the dorm rooms became cells and holding areas, where as the great Library and storage facilities have all been locked up with access only to the senior officers.

Architecture

The Shard is a towering structure built on Isle of Rosier. It is built from the salvaged Entherium, the magically imbued mineral to which the Entherians built their fortresses and thus the stones have an ominous purple hue emanating from the tower.

History

Sitting on a baron island to the west of Enther's coast, The former college is now used as a prison for Enther's most dangerous criminals. Once the seat of the legendary hero Rosier, The Shard was a place of solace and learning for Enther's most talented magic wielders. Humans and fairfolk alike would take residence at the college to study under the most powerful mages.   Built on a convergence of magical energy, The Shard itself is imbedded with magical properties.   Since the legendary betrayal of Rosier the Shard was converted into a prison, with its magical properties now turned against the "residents". The core of The shard, which once emmited magical energy to keep it's residents energised, has been reversed and now drains Magic Users of their magic and power. The magic energy itself is stored in the core and is then sold to the guilds around Enther as a supply of magical energy.
