The Blue Beyond

Far to the west of the known world, the Blue Beyond stretches for what seems like eternity. Many tales are told of the beyond and every corner of Aigea has their own interpretation of what lies beyond the beyond but one thing remains constant with all the stories; no one who has gone into the beyond has ever returned.

Localized Phenomena

Ferocious storms, violent lightning and ravenous waves are the norm when entering the blue beyond. Few ships have been close enough to the beyond to tell of the dangerous conditions, and even few of them have returned.    Some claim sighting monstrous creatures both above and under the water, while others have spoken of seeing other bizarre apparitions and visions. In Anders Trevelyan's journal of his travels throughout Mirth, he writes of the ship he was aboard being pulled into the Beyond after getting to close to the outskirts. The ship was pulled into a merciless storm, where much of the crew were washed overboard by the ginormous waves. Anders, falling victim to the storm, was dragged into the depths of the beyond all but guarantying his death, before his eyes closed, he felt cold scaly hands wrap around him, before passing out, black hair brushed over his face as he fell into eternal sleep.   Anders awoke choking on sea water, upon an unknown shore. He was alone and unsure about how much time had passed. anders claims he lived upon the island for seven weeks alone, until he saw a passing ship and signaled for them. Unluckily for Anders, this ship was an Sundinian pirate ship. The pirate's threw Anders in with the rest of the cargo, slaves from Sundinia, Oshya and Owai. In the depths of the ship, Anders kept hold of his amulet which contained a small painting of his lover. When the captain discovered this, he demanded Ander's paint him. Without a choice, Ander's painted the captain.   When the Captain arrived at their destination, the city of Jadu, where slavery was still legal, the Captain sold his slaves, but showed Ander's talents with his portraits and a bidding war commenced between many of the cities wealthiest. Anders was sold to a Iphite Rasan, the nobility of the city, who wanted Anders to paint his family. During his servitude Anders was treat well, becoming almost family to the Rasan and secretly forming a relationship with the Rasan's son. One night, after two years of serving the Rasan, the rasan's son and Anders plotted Ander's escape, to which was sucesful and Anders made his way back to Enther, to be reunited with his lover. However he found his lover had moved on and married a woman and had children.    Shunned and broken, Anders was driven to insanity. His memoirs and paintings during his breakdown became that of legend, especially after his suicide.   This is the affect of the blue Beyond and the destruction that it can bring, in more than just the literal sense.
