Orcs
Orcs are similar to humans, though with craggier features and generally grey, green, or brown toned skin. Their facial features include a wide but shallow nose and tusks (though the rest of their teeth are normal). Orcs are more physically powerful, but less magically adept than humans, and many assume they are less intelligent likely due to their traditional way of life, considered barbaric by many. Traditionally, orcs live in tribes where the strongest is the chieftain; this chieftain is typically one of the only Orcs in a tribe to take wives, though others may be granted this privilege. Orc chieftains are considered the strongest Orc in a tribe, and rule until another, stronger challenger usurps them in physical combat. This combat is usually a fight to the death, as the loss of honor that would result from conceding defeat in such a fight is often considerably higher than an honorable death in battle. However, when a former leader chooses to live, they can become a valuable asset to the clan as an elder. Similar to this is the Orcish tradition of enveloping other tribes. Often, much larger tribes may establish subject or slave tribes by defeating the leader of a smaller tribe and keeping them both alive and the leader of their new vassal. As opposed to male Orcs, female Orcs are often described as brutish but passive, but this is incorrect and merely cultural misinformation. When cornered, a female orc may fight just as ferociously as a male. Still orcs are extremely male-dominated and females are always considered lesser at best, relegated to raising children and keeping the tribe's home functioning while males are out getting glory. One exception to this is that the mother, sisters, and occasionally other female relatives of an Orc chieftain can become rather powerful, as they would typically manage the tribe's holdings while males are at war, alongside typically marrying the tribe's more important figures. Since these lieutenants typically don't have many wives, they also benefit from less of a completion in harem politics.
