Great Maw

The Great Maw is an orcish horde that has swept down from the steppe in recent years, to the horror of many inhabitants of the Khŭlmozhi, Alsaaljafu, and Tis-Jafarya regions. Consorting with devils and demons and with a Cambion ruler, the horde stands poised to unite the orcs and cause a New Dark Age. From there, some whisper that they strive to consume and destroy the entire world.

History

The nucleus of the Great Maw was once just another orcish tribe roaming the steppe, far back in history. During the rise of the Teltars, they, along with their fellow tribes were subjugated by the Ord. They were essentially slaves of that vast war machine for many years, and their people became even harder and crueler, countless lives spent at the whims of a Great Khan that cared little for their people. It is quite natural that the Saqavīt clan, and many of their fellows abandoned the Ord during the years of its fall. From 1855-1906, the orcish peoples migrated out of the steppe in greater numbers than ever before and marched across the hills, establishing new homelands and overtaking the humans and goblins previosuly settled there. But not the Saqavīt. They way was blocked by the time their clan arrived in the foothills, and the dwarves of the mountains had fortified the passes once more. So it is there they settled, hoping their modest lives would escape the notice of the Ord.
It was not to be. In 1913, the Ord made a concerted effort to crush the orcs who had abandoned them and swept upin the Saqavīt like an avenging angel. The survivors were enslaved, the men sent to the front once more. A new chieftain was chosen, one who the Ord felt would be more loyal to them. They were wrong. The original chieftain's family remained, and they nurtured their claim, acknowledged by all in secret. But none ever dreamed that liberation would come, or that it would be so dystopic in nature.
The chance came in 1958, when the Third Anti-Ord Coalition began. With the watchful eyes of their overlord turned towards the front, the plan was launched. For several years, the Saqavīt leadership had been consorting with demons, in both meanings of the word. A number of cambions were now (in secret) serving them, but it would be nothing compared to the future. Huge numbers of cambions were now bred into existance, even as the number of demons in service to the restored chieftain swelled. When the menfolk of the tribe returned from the front after desertion, they swelled the numbers more. By the end of the 16-year war, the Saqavīt had a number of youthful cambions, their veteran orcish soldiers, and full-blooded demons at their service. The tattered forces of the Ord which dared to attempt to re-establish control were slaughtered to the man, and the Ord thereafter stayed away from the foothills there.
Though they had gained their freedom, the Saqavīt had sold their souls to do it. By this point probably about 60% of the tribe was a cambion, including most of the potential heirs for the chiefdom. The demons enlisted were also seeking more than just the freedom of their people, and wanted to completely corrupt them. They found their man in Khŭrgus, one of the "hundred sons of the chief" and one of the youngest, born in 1968. A magically-adept cambion with a succubus mother, he was completely and irredeemably evil. Needing little persuasion, he slaughtered his father and any of his siblings who dared to challenge his rule (and even some who did not) in an orgy of blood in 1987. Khŭrgus claimed his father's harem as his own, elevated his mother to chief advisor, and placed a number of new laws that all must follow (the Khŭrguskode). Whle the demons had been planning to overthrow the orcs and form an outpos of demonkind, by 1991 Khŭrgus had bound and overpowered every single demon aside from a few weak ones (and his mother, though he did not trust even her). He then led the clan on a violent rampage throught the hills his clan had once failed to gain entry to, raping and pillaging, siccing demons on all who stood in his way. Though his demands to any who sought to surrender were ridiculously harsh, many preferred them to the fearsome "blood orgies" he would otherise hold in their destroyed towns. By 1998, Khŭrgus had carved a path to Tis-Jafarya, and has rested for two years, amassing a great army to sweep over the region and form his empire.

Demography and Population

The demonic population of the Great Maw mostly consists of succubi & incubi, rokurokubi, bajang, empousa, graul, imps, quazir, and dev. The Graul in particular have an important place, as they are placed strategically to ensure that locals must continually raid for captives to feed to them or else be consumed themselves.
Ignoring demons, whose numbers fluctuate, the population of the Great Maw is probably about 15% cambion, 10% daemuri, 40% orcish, 15% Urukai, and 20% humans, with a few giants scattered about. Humans in particular are very oppressed, often eaten by dev or taken as slaves by Teghin.
