Kingdom of Ilmoric

The Kingdom of Ilmoric was a powerful and wealthy kingdom that once existed in the southwest region of Ærellion. The area that this kingdom use control is now inhabited by Human bandits, impoverished villages, Demons, Goblins, and the Undead. The ruins of the great cities that dotted the kingdom are typically overrun with different bandit factions or decedents of the old lords, creating small realms of influence in that area. Five of the most important and influential cities are under the control of demonic lords. The city of Synel, which lies in the northern part of the kingdom, is controlled by a demon lord known as, Mormo, who controls a horde of ghouls and other demonic monsters. In the city of Nede, which lies to the east, there several undead and other cursed beings controlled by the cursed baron, Victor Ashfield, who was cursed with undeath by The Soulless Sovereign. The city of Solis, near the the coast in the south, is under the control of a demon known as, Tunrida, a succubus that draws in bandits and other travelers to serve her. The city of Mortis, in the west, is controlled by demonic lord know as, Moloch, who abducts travelers to sacrifice them to gain more power. And lastly the capital, Illmon, controlled by The Soulless Sovereign who controls vast hordes of undead and cursed creatures that protect the city from unwanted visitors.

While the kingdom was founded in the year 1100 S.C. it did not become a signifigant player in the geopolitical or geoeconomic spheres till the year 1243 S.C. when King Lysan I came into power. He reformed the country to become a more modernized which lead to a more cohesive state. He would later win several wars against neighboring kingdoms and principalties expanding the nation's borders. Toward the end of his rule in 1268 S.C. he was able to establish a great trade network that made the Kingdom of Illmoric a corner stone in regional economics. For the next 200 years the kingdom's influence on the region grew eventually taking over most of the Aimauria region and streched into the Jangalavaal and Yvalāntu regions as well. This time was known as the Illmoric Golden Age and where they become a continental power that was both respected and feared. In the year of 1473 S.C. is when the downfall of the kingdom began as the ruler known as King Utrel the Unwitting came to power. He was a weak ruler and left much of the Kingdom in hands of his council, who used the opprotunity to gain much power within the kingdom for themselves eventually gaining regions that would be loyal only to them. This persisted until the assassination of Utrel in 1482 S.C. by the hands of his cousin, Melisande. She would usurp the throne and begin to take back the power her cousin had lost in his short reign. This began a series of wars known the Baron Wars which was between the crown and the former king's councilors this conflict lasted for about 7 years ending in the defeat of the would-be lords and the power being restored to the crown. It is said that Queen Melisande was a ruthless, stomping out any form of rebellion. Some believed her parinoid due to the former council's actions and the willingness of many of the country men to betray the dynasty. While the kingdom did thrive during this time so did the foundations of hatred for the crown by the populace due to the actions of Queen Melisande. Later in year 1520 S.C the crown came into possestion of the Ars Usymra and found the book to an evil that should not be allowed to roam freely many attempts were made to destroy the book but to no avail so they oppted to bind the book to never see the light of day again. In the year 1554, King Alreic I took the throne and was almost immediately brought to misfortune as many rebellions had sprung up in the first few years of his rule, which he was not able to put out. Soon he had parts of the kingdom fully split from the country and there was nothing he could do about it due to sevreal other rebellions going on at the time. He was even forced to sign over the sovereignty of the city of Angchrapur to Gnomes, which caused a major blow to his kingdom. Later in the year 1575 the king's 5 year old son, Vyllrec, was taken hostage by Lord Ithmial. Five years later, Vyllrec was rescude but permanently scarred both emotionally and physically. In the year 1589, King Alreic I died under mysterous circumsatances and his son Vyllrec took the throne. King Vyllrec was forced to sign a number of treaties with the rebels that effectivally made the title of king an honorary one. During The Vyllrec the power of Illmoric all but crumbled, consumed by spite and anger he sought for ways to undermine the government that brought the his dynasty to ruin. He made deals with pirates and bandits to begin raids on the kingdom, burning the countryside and plundering coastal cities, but this wasn't enough for the king as he wanted the not only those that were directly involved in the rebellion to suffer but also the populace to sufer, as he viewed the populace responsable as well. So he plotted to make everyone suffer, he went to the secrect holding place of the Ars Usymra and began to study the book. Eventually summoning a devil known as Maltorem, who made a pact with the king, which allowed the devil to use the kingdom as a staging ground for a demonic invastion while the king was allowed tremendous amount of power. And so in the year 1595, the demoic hold on Illmoric began. Between the years 1595 and 1600, mass exodiuses began from the country but many were destroyed by demonic hordes, as the demons didn't want news to spread of there invastion till they were well establish, but few escaped spreading word and rasing the alarm to any who would listen but their warning mostly fell on deaf ears. Eventually in the year 1598 Dark Knight Gabriel, a renowned Demonologist, made his way into the kingdom. Gabriel helped who he could to escape, even helping a few of the nobility to refuge in the neighboring nations. In the year 1600 is when the demonic plauge was brought to a hault due to the actions of Gabriel, who destroyed the portals that Maltorem was using, though at supposedly at the cost of his own life and also in this year the kingdom of Illmoric was offically delcared by all the surrounding nations as disolved. The surrounding nations also delcared that the area the kingdom formally controlled as cursed and have stayed far away from it dispite the region being rich in resources.

Thought this declaration didn't deter everyone, over the next few hundred years there was several crusades in attempts to either try and restore the kingdom, kill the remaining demonic beings, or other reasons. All of which ended in failure and most of those that went on these crusades were never heard from again.

Lore Note for Ian: The original devils brought armies of demons from the shadow realm through a portal in the capital of Ilmoric. However, a brave man named Dark Knight Gabriel destroyed the portal, severing the connection. The soulless sovereign backstabbed the devils after they deposed him instead of aiding him and allowed Gabriel secret access to the portal. After he destroyed the portal, the devils turned on one another instead of working in tandem, each suspecting the others of destroying the portal.

History

Not much information still exists about this kingdom, its name is mentioned in some texts in the human kingdoms to the northwest and southeast. What is said about it, is that the kingdom was a military and commercial power house holding great sway in geopolitical conflicts and that even the poorest among them lived like kings. It is also said that in the kingdom, they shunned the gods believing that the gods only sought worship so that they could keep them under control, so the kingdom broke free of their "shackles" and built a land ruled only by man, built up only by man, and blessed only by man, it is said that because they did this, it is why the kingdom fell into ruin.

Disbandment

The decline of the kingdom began back in the year 1400 S.C. when a new ruling dynasty took over the throne. This dynasty was full of greedy and lustful rulers, acquiring lots of wealth for the crown by taking over many of the private or noble businesses and creating great class division. This persisted for a long time until it boiled over into several revolts until the last king, who is only known as "The Soulless Sovereign", who's power was diminished due to the rebels forcefully pushing themselves into governmental body and courts. It's known that The Soulless Sovereign made a pact with the devil that goes by the name, Maltorem, the exact details are lost to time, but it is known that he sold his soul, which is where he got his moniker, so that he could see the ones who wronged him suffer for eternity. This deal turned out to be the final nail in the coffin for the kingdom, since he had sold his soul, The Soulless Sovereign lost his humanity and ability to reason, and so he used ancient curse to stop any of his subjects from leaving his domain of control. He also saw any one who was not a subject as an enemy and sent his armies to rid himself of them, this drove away any merchants and so the kingdom quickly became impoverished. What also spelled doom for the kingdom was the vast hordes of demonic beings that began to flood the land attacking anyone they saw, soon the outside world would completely abandon the kingdom and imposed laws that forbid any to travel there. And the kingdom was left to the history books and its glory days soon forgotten.
