Elenaril Carlois
Elenaril Carlois held many titles in her long, tumultuous lifetime- crown Princess of North Fraspika, Marquess of Couélion, Chieftess of [TBD], and finally Empress of Frostreach. Born in 1192 SC in North Fraspika, she was the only child of Martin II. By the age of three, her father was already trying to marry her off to various nations in order to strengthen their position, but due to his general paranoia these attempts ended poorly. When the centaurs conquered Couélion in 1204, he even tried to pawn her off the Khan Braehyst, which he took as an insult. He then killed Martin II and installed her as the Marquess of Couélion. Essentially a prisoner and puppet of the centaurs, the people did not much like her, and had previosuly rarely seen her as her father kept her inside. However, she was a rebel at heart and detested the rule of centaurs, covertly funding rebel groups with the limited funds available to her by age 18. In 1212, she was introduced to High Jarl Øldar, the Fierce, at this time a loyal servant of the khanate. At first she despised Øldar, even as the khanate was hoping they would come to like each other (hoping Øldar would encourage her to be more loyal). However, after Øldar returned from fighting for the centaurs, he was disillusioned, and they two began secretly plotting together in order to overthrow the Khanate or to reform it into a more equal nation. After the legendary duel in which Øldar slew his centaur brothers and was exiled, Elenaril fled with him as she was implicated in the ensuing fallout. The Marquisate of Couélion was dissolved and humans were treated harsher than ever.
During this exile, she fell in love with Øldar, who eagerly returned her affection (as he had already been in love with her from the start) and the two planned for overthrowing the Khanate and for the future. Elenaril was a key voice in support of the legendary Varimar "Fireblood" of the Blazennian Confederation. But when the Khanate fell, Elenaril's people did not see her as a valid ruler, and even the great Charles Renvois wished her to merely wed Jacq I and birth a new dynasty. Elenaril refused this and instead went with Øldar to his people, who had elected him chieftain. The two wedded and soon she gave birth to their first child. After the child was healthy and fit to travel, they departed with the [TBD] to Frostreach, where she ruled alongside Øldar and actually outlived him thanks to her elven ancestry, only dying in 1307. Her children, and all subsequent rulers of Frostreach have taken the surname Karlus, a translation of Carlois into their language, and some of the more ambitious have even claimed the Fraspikan throne. After all, no Karlus ever signed the treaty of Lorrelais...
Elenaril was one-eighth elvish through her maternal great-grandmother, her father and mother were cousins, and her mother's parents were half-aunt and half-nephew to each other. It is most fortunate that she did not seem to suffer from any incestuous maladies.
