Planar Metals

Think about how for the extra-planar beings these are as common as copper and give thanks to the deities that we have the Astral.
— Nefa, scholar
These metals are usually found in one particular region of a plane of existence but they can occasionally be found in small veins on the Disputed Plane. These metals are frequently used in important items, inventions, and religious ceremonies devoted to the quasi-deities. When used in inventions these metals enhance the invention making it work better, faster, or giving it additional functions. Some say that using planar metal makes it possible to recreate an invention even if those involved in the project aren't able to under normal circumstances .

Items made using planar metal have magical properties based off of the metal used. Most powerful magical items are made from planar metal. Additionally some holy items of quasi-deities are decorated with planar metal filigree or leafing. The Elemental Plane and the Disputed Plane are anomalies in that they don't have planar metals. The Elemental Plane simply has no metals at all while the Disputed Plane has metals that resemble planar metals but don't have any magical properties.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Most planar metals are lighter than they appear to be, except those associated with the waters of Feiri. All metals associated with the Ring are usually warm to the touch while those associated with Feiri are usually cool to the touch.

History & Usage

History

Ever since their discovery, planar metal has been used to create magical items and religious iconography. It hasn't been until fairly recently when elven inventors began experimenting with planar metals, that their ability to enhance inventions was found.

Refinement

In order to be used, most planar metals must be smelted.

Reusability & Recycling

Planar metal can be melted down to be used again.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Trading for planar metals is usually very competitive since many different groups and individuals want to possess them. Most mining companies have a certain group(s) or individual(s) who are the only ones they offer to sell planar metal to.

Law & Regulation

Due to the very valuable nature of planar metal, laws regarding them tend to be strict. The penalties for selling fake metal are harsh. Most sovereignties only allow select people to buy planar metals.
Rarity
very rare
Color
Usually metallic colours, but occasionally more unsusal ones like black, blue, and red
Melting / Freezing Point
One of the difficulties of working with planar metals is that they tend to have high melting points, especially those that come from the Ring
Common State
solid
