Nadah Hohli

Head of Hohli Nadah Hohli (a.k.a. the Peacemaker)

I would say I regret it if I could but a blessed of Zanas can not lie.
— Nadah Hohli
The Hohli family has long been staunch allies of the Bolis , acting as their right hand in all affairs. Nadah is no exception, he is the close friend and supporter of the current Head of the Empire, Blank Boli, so it was unsurprising that he was sent as the Ostarin Empire representative to the peace talks after the War for Zhaliya. What was surprising was the worldwide peace that he managed to negotiate.

Personal history

Nadah was born on the second day of balance, causing him to be declared to be blessed by Zanas. As such he was expected to be truthful and a voice of reason and balance from a young age. He has tried to fulfill these expectations but this task is made more difficult by people's various conflicting views of balance. As a member of the Hohli family, Nadah was raised with the heirs to the Empire's most powerful family, the Bolis. He and his younger brother, were the Boli heirs' playmates and constant companions leading to a close friendship between the five. Nadah's honesty and willingness to negotiate kept their friendship together even if his parents disapproved of what they saw as overly complacent and passive behavior. Nadah responded by trying to be more aggressive in his negotiations but this him seem unbalanced. After one of these negotiations went spectacularly bad and his brother and Chasa Boli not speaking to him for several days, Nadah gave up this strategy. His relationship with Chasa never fully recovered from this. He still tries to seem aggressive outside of negotiations to please his parents and out of guilt.

Head Lethe Boli by Hero Forge
When Nadah was twenty two, Kagi Boli, the head of Ostari died, leaving her first born, Lethe Boli, to take her place. Nadah was her most trusted advisor, like numerous other Hohli firstborns before him. His presence at Lethe's side was seen as many as Zanas endorsing Lethe Boli, and by extension, the Ostarin Empire. His skill at mediation was useful, but drew quite a bit of criticism from other nobles that thought that Nadah would soften the new head and the Ostarin Empire. At first, Nadah tended to give in to their demands for aggressive stances taken by the Ostarin Empire but he felt guilty for doing so. Seeking guidence, he prayed to Zanas for help. His prayers may not have attracted the deity, but they did attract Nei, a Charran devotee of Zanas.

I am a blessed of Zanas, I am supposed to bring balance, but I am also a Ostarin so I am supposed to bring war.
— Nadah
After one day of prayer, Nei struck up a conversation with Nadah, expressing her concern for him. Nadah was wary of her at first as he could see from her earring that she was a Charran, but after making polite conversation with her for many days her genuine concern and willingness to listen won him over. Mostly she just listened, something he appreciated greatly. Occasionally she would give advice but she was careful to frame it as optional. She did refuse to compromise her dedication to pacifism, always reminding him that avoiding conflicts was not necessarily bad and always speaking out against more militaristic actions.

Nadah found himself putting these ideas to use when the War for Zhaliya ended and the peace was being negotiated. The leaders of other sovereignties had seen how powerful Zhaliya was becoming and many of them feared that Zhaliya could conqueror the entire continent of Istervyn or even the world if left unchecked. The leaders of the major sovereignties sent representatives to meet and discuss Zhaliya. Lethe sent Nadah to represent the Ostarin Empire, as the leaders debated what to do, Nadah couldn't keep Nei and her arguments for the strengths of peace out of his mind. After listening silently to the debate and thinking, he came up with the rough plan for the Lasting Peace. Zhaliya would be kept in place by the force of the world but the world would have to live in relative peace for this to work.

Some people try to console me by saying what I did was right. I am grateful for this but I know the truth. What I did was right but it was also traitorous. Perhaps I should be rotting in jail.
— Nadah
Despite the protests of the nobles, Nadah argued persuasively for the Ostarin Empire to be a part of this and Lethe agreed with him. Nei was overjoyed to hear the news and while Nadah feels some guilt over his decision at the meeting he feels that he has done what is best for the world. As the Lasting Peace has worn on, his feelings remain conflicted. He has seen great things happen because of the peace but he has also seen his home sovereignty wane in power. The Ostarin Empire has lost quite a bit of territory during the peace as the nobles residing there claim the lands as separate sovereignties. While the Lasting Peace has not brought an end to all wars, the empire is also in the middle of a revolution, further weakening it and preventing the empire to reclaim its lost territories.

Nadah has done his best to advise Lethe and the empire has seen the growth of better infrastructure and wealth from trade. Many amongst the common people and the revolutionaries hope that Nadah will negotiate a peaceful solution between the revolutionaries and the government. Nadah meanwhile has been working on being more aggressive and thinking about how to return the empire to its former glory. Yet Nei's words about peace are still in his mind.

Sexuality

Nadah has only shown interest in women but is not currently in a romantic relationship

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Nadah wants to do whats best for the Ostarin Empire and what's expected of him as a chosen of Zanas. What achieving either of these entails is very subjective, much to his distress. He really wants to make the people around him happy, especially those he's fond of like his parents and Lethe.

Virtues & Personality perks

Nadah is an excellent negotiator, always willing to listen to both sides and striving to create a balanced compromise. His negotiations are aided by his politeness and care to try to keep everyone happy. He is careful to remain honest but is not bluntly so, making him well liked by most people and especially well liked by Lethe.

Vices & Personality flaws

He admits himself that it's treason and yet here he is, still Head of Hohli and advisor to the Head of Ostari too!
— Kubra Riva, Head of Riva and detractor of Nadah
For all his strengths, Nadah has plenty of faults, which his detractors are more than happy to point out. Once he's heard both sides of an issue and has made his decision on something, he rarely changes this. He can actually become quite argumentative and stubborn when debating an idea or plan that he's set on. This trait does not carry over to his own actions and methods, which he feels very uncertain about. He is usually unhappy with himself, often feeling that he should have handled a situation differently or that he isn't working towards his goals correctly.

He seems like a very interesting and conflicted character! Poor Nadah. Well done on the article, I found it very believable and well-written!

He's a really interesting character. I like that he did the right thing but still kind of considers himself a traitor.
