Grave Finger

Kerali's Messanger

Many years ago this disease swept through Silara and brought about a revolution. As cases of the disease appeared throughout the sovereignty in before unseen numbers, the clerics of Kerali, who were already discontent with the sovereignty's current direction , took the plague as sign from their deity that now was the time for change. Even after Silara was established as a theocracy, Grave Finger remains, revealing those that are disloyal or unfit to rule or at least that's what the clerics of Kerali say.

Those that contract the illness often find themselves shunned by friends and family and soon put on trial for their crimes as they must have done something to provoke the diety. If a particularly large outbreak occurs, the government will begin to take drastic action to ensure that the sovereignty ceaseses its unholy behavoir. Even after the disease lifts, those that had it often find themselves distrusted and avoided. Two sovereigns of Silara have been disposed because they caught the illness. Many suffering from Grave Finger try to hide their symptoms to avoid such scorn and punishment but those that are caught hiding it are looked down on even more so than other infected and face harsher punishments.

Causes

Supposedly Grave Finger is brought on by being disloyal or displeasing Kerali. Large outbreaks are signs from the deity that change is needed in the sovereignty. Other sects devoted to the deity claim that the disease is just one more tool that Kerali uses to bring about death and that it holds no special status amongst diseases.

Symptoms

At first the only symptoms are a numbness or tingling in the fingers and a mild fever. Soon after the fever increases although the infected feels cold. Their fingers begin hurting especially at the joints and they often have little appatite.

Treatment

Typical treatment is offering up sacrifices, prayer, and other acts such as holding vigil at a temple to Kerali in penetentce for whatever one has done. Sometimes suffers will appeal to the diety through a cleric.
