The Sundering

The Sundering is the name given on Magicians' End to the catastrophic events that took place at the end of the Thousand Year Alliance between The Fey Court and the Kingdom of Snowborne.   The Fey know of it as the Iceholt Betrayal but on Magicians' End, the reasons for the ending of the alliance were never public knowledge and remain the subject of speculation to this day.   Regardless of its cause, the effects of the Sundering were disasterous, not only for Snowborne but more widely throughout the world. It was from this time foreward that, due to the directly caused deaths of so many mages, the world of Trinity Moon itself began to be called Magicians' End.   The cover illustration shows the supernatural stormfront as it swept over Dark Harbour on Zisleth. It would be followed by unnaturally accelerated glaciation and deep long term temperature drops that rendered the entire north polar continent uninhabitable, effectively even to date, although conditions have eased somewhat over the last few thousand years. Meanwhile the effects spread to Tinturbean and to the northern half of Myruthea, where ice sheets covered the top third of the larger continent and almost all of the smaller. Only Punjuki in the southern hemisphere remained largely unaffected.   It would take until the end of the age of the Long Thaw before Myruthea and Tinturbean regained the habitable land that had been lost and Zisleth has never been recolonised.
