The Thousand Year Alliance

The Thousand Year Alliance is the popular name for a treaty which was signed under magical witness wards, between the Kingdom of Snowborne and The Fey Court on 28th of Glim, 8209 BPC.   The Mage King agreed that an embassy would be established at Iceholt for the benefit of all Fey that chose either to dwell in this realm or were passing through. There was to be mutual co-operation on matters of magical research and an exchange of knowledge.   The principal signatories were the Mage King Theodrax and the Fey King, Tang Ralta.   The name refers not only to the treaty but to the long period of prosperity and success that it brought to the Kingdom of Snowborne, even if it did not last for quite the full one thousand years.   If we were to speculate on why the Fey engaged in such an atypical political action, resulting in such high levels of formal contact with a mortal realm, the opening up of the Axial Tower and the considerable power it gave to the mages of the Kingdom of Snowborne provide one obvious motivation for their interest.   The treaty was terminated by the Fey on 3rd of Pruth in the year 7231 BPC in a dramatic event called the Sundering (also known by the Fey as the Iceholt Betrayal).   In the many thousands of years since, there has been only sporadic and informal contacts between the realms and nothing so close as the Thousand Year Alliance. But perhaps this is about to change...
