The Meditator

The Mediator is a very slowly morphing abstract sculpture of ancient origins, made from some glass like substance and operating on principles which no one in the modern world exactly understands. It is a human made artefact but comes from beyond Earth where it was made some time in the long ages before the Great Forgetting.
The Meditator assumes a seemingly infinite variety of forms, often suggestive of organic morphologies. It is capable of imparting a range of brilliant colours to the light it reflects, refracts, transmits and sometimes even emits. Always beautiful and ever changing, the Meditator acts as a focus for spiritual contemplation. It is thought to project a mental field which reinforces the aesthetic hypnotism of its endless transformations. Individuals who spend time in contemplation before the artefact report that they find themselves uplifted by the experience and soothed by the mood of tranquility and altered perspective these sessions induce.

History

The Meditator is a device found by Geigamon settlers amongst the ruins of an ancient human civilisation on the world of Neo Fleverovia. Like the legendary Klane, it belongs to one of those long ages before the Great Forgetting about which we know so little. Gifted to Imylka Jhress for services rendered in a Birthing Ceremony, the artefact was brought to Anoomenon when she returned to Earth after a tour of duty on the fifth Friendship Mission.

Significance

Whilst the Meditator is thought by the wise to operate on purely physical principles, albeit ones that no one is capable of explaining in our current age, in practice it is seen by most people as a spiritual object and one of the holiest on Earth. It is the centrepiece of St. Imylka's Cathedral and has been the focal point for worship and pilgramage from far beyond the city of Anoomenon, ever since the consecration of the Cathedral in 2127 AF. This has brought much wealth and renown to the city over the following centuries.
