Skyfolk Cosmology

Summary

Traditional skyfolk cosmology divided the world into 3 layers, "The Seas Below", "The Sky Between", and "The Stars Above". Each layer is separated by a dangerous region that makes travel difficult, between the sea and sky is the the cloud sea, a thick layer of clouds where powerful winds always blow, and between the sky and the stars is the frost winds, an area where the temperature rapidly drops, preventing anyone travelling beyond it until recently.   "The Sky Between", typically just referred to as The Sky these days, is the layer that Skyfolk reside within.   "The Seas Below" was believed to be a realm where all the water that runs off the sky islands above rains down, creating a deep and endless ocean. Some stories told of "Seafolk", counterparts to the Skyfolk who lived on islands in the waters below. When the island that became Skyfall Isle was transported to the Sea of Ondine, they believed for a long time that they had found The Seas Below so took on the Seafolk name for themselves.   "The Stars Above" is the topmost layer, far above the home of the Skyfolk. The nature of the region is vague in myth, but it is what would otherwise be known as outer space. Some tales told of "Star Folk", people who lived amongst the stars as a 3rd counterpart to the Skyfolk and Seafolk, though none detailed who or what they may be. Starfolk has become a common nickname for the inhabitants of Home thanks to the skyfolk who met the first visitors assuming they were the starfolk of those obscure legends.
