Session 1: The Boar Hunt

Notable Events.

Overview.

The session began with a quest to meet with the Oracle of Thylea, who had discovered that they are destined to save Thylea from the Twin Titans: Sydon and Lutheria. The Heroes began their journey in the Sour Vintage where they met each other and their local guide, a travelling poet named Kyrah. The Heroes were tasked with slaying the Great Boar who had been terrorising the Heartlands. They did this after hiring a few hunters and tracking it to a nearby cave. Upon its defeat the Heroes chose to sacrifice the boar to the god Pythor. They were then tasked with rescuing the Oracle from forces aligned with Sydon. They travelled to the temple and slew the acolytes and warriors who were besieging the temple. They then breached the lower level of the temple where they would find the oracle.

Session Events.

The Sour Vintage Inn. The adventure began with three different adventurers meeting at The Sour Vintage Inn. They had answered a summons from the Oracle of Thylea, as recent divining had indicated the three of them would be paramount in saving Thylea from the Twin Titans, Sydon and Lutheria. They were to meet with a messenger of hers at the inn, who would lead them to the Temple of the Oracle where they can meet and discuss their fate. The first of the three adventurers was Nikolaos, a former soldier of Mytros who had an unknown heritage that allowed him to cast magic. The second was Marc Iplire a satyr paladin dedicated to the Old Dragonlords, who's village had been destroyed by a great dragon in the past. The final of the three was the cursed Athanasios Apeiros, a former acolyte of Lutheria's temple, who had run from the organisation after learning more of their secretive ways. In doing so he had bargained with a foul entity for powers to help him achieve it.   This was the first time the three had met, so they discussed their pasts and the rumours about them (including Marc Iplire's claim that he won a staring contest against a Medusa). Afterwhich they ordered some drinks from the bar and met Kyrah, the travelling poet who was tasked with helping the soon-to-be heroes on their journey to the Oracle. Before Kyrah would help them, she suggested that the heroes prove themselves by hunting the Great Boar who had recently arrived in the local area and was causing harm to the farmers of the region. The Heroes agreed to and hired two hunters to travel with them, as they knew the location of its lair.   The Hunt. The Heroes, who were accompanied with two hunters and Kyrah, travelled to a hidden cave northeast of the Sour Vintage. Upon arrival, Nikolaos suggested laying a pit-trap outside the cave in the hopes that the boar was resting in the cave and when spooking it, it would run into the pit trap. Just as the hunters finished laying the trap, the Great Boar charged from its cave and gored one of the hunters. The Heroes lept into action and with the combined effort of their steel and magic, slew the Great Boar. Kyrah told the Heroes that such a mythic beast would be wasted if they did not sacrifice it to one of the Five Gods. She told them that such a gift would surely be reciprocated. The Heroes chose to sacrifice the beast to the God of Battle, Pythor. After the sacrifice, the Heroes explored the small cave and found two bodies, who were likely locals. Amongst their corpses was a handful of gold coins and a silvered spear. The group, including the remaining hunter travelled back to the Sour Vintage and rested.   Travel to the Temple. After their rest, Kyrah suggested they make haste to the Temple of the Oracle as the prophecy they are now entangled in was vital to the future of Thylea. The Heroes, with Kyrah, then travelled to the temple, passing through a great valley. Within this valley the encountered great stone structures resembling arms and hands reaching to the sky. Kyrah told the Heroes that these are one of the many physical signs that Kentimane watches over his lands. The rest of the journey was uneventful. The temple was situated within a canyon, this required the Heroes to travel the length of the canyon to find the recessed temple entrance.   An Occupied Temple. Upon arrival it was immediately clear something was wrong. The Heroes encountered four soldiers clad in bronze mail and bright blue cloaks guarding the entrance to the temple. Kyrah immediately made it clear that those soldiers were not usually there and were dressed in the attire of the Order of Sydon. The Heroes attacked and killed the guards after they decreed that they shall not enter as per Lord Sydon's orders. Entering the inner temple chamber, the Heroes saw more soldiers with what appeared to be a leader. The leader was beating a temple attendant into submission. Nikolaos tried to convince the soldiers to stand down, but they mocked the Heroes claiming that 'this temple is now the property of Lord Sydon'. The Heroes fought the soldiers, ending them, and freed the remaining temple attendants who were bound. The elder of the attendants thanked the Heroes, and told them that his name was Proteus and that the Oracle was in danger. The Heroes swore to save her and went further into the temple. The Heroes travelled into the back of the temple, finding the attendant's chambers, there they fought a few flying swords and Marc Iplire looted three potions of healing. They then headed down a flight of stairs and tried to open a door to the lower temple, which was revealed to be a mimic, which they also slew. Upon entering the lower level of the temple, the room was revealed to be a great underground cave with a water filled grotto at the center. This was where the Oracle would be, and she needed saving.
