Tiger Striped Hooked Slug Species in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Tiger Striped Hooked Slug

These strange slugs are used as food and a resource for the fish folk of Urgleblurgblug. They also are cultivated by the Urgleblurgblug as a form of defense against outside intruders. The poisonous acidic skin deters most predators except for the iron beak birds that prey on the slug and the fish folk alike. Their primary focus seems to be to eat and breed. Their voracious appetite for yellow scum is thankfully provided by in abundance by the deep heat and nutrients in the Lake of the Dragon's Stomach. They cover much of the walls and edges of the cavern within the lake, constantly moving, reproducing and eating while off gassing a nauseating smell.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These slugs are massive in size, subsist on otherwise poisonous vegetation and are dangerous to many. This diet causes the skin to concentrate the acids and toxins which they excrete over time. Touching the slugs carelessly can cause limbs, weapons and clothing to disintegrate and leave burn marks. The actual interior flesh is fairly safe to eat for the fishfolk that eat them, but still mildly poisonous to others.   Some slugs develop strange protrusions and generate electrical charges that sting those who are near them. These electrical discharges also generate a necromantic effect which can necrotize wounds quickly.

Growth Rate & Stages

Generally growing to full size in a year since birth they are the size of medium sized dogs.

Ecology and Habitats

Known only to exist in the Lake of the Dragon's Stomach they are the primary food source of the Urgleblurgblug and feed extensively on blue lichen and yellow scum.
