Melen Organization in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Melen

The isle of Melen is a land of contradictions. The Gourum are grey skinned, large humanoids of great strength.

Culture, Traditions and Religion

Polearm, hammer, axe, net and pick practice is a common pastime for exercise. It is participated with at all levels of society.   Fishing and pig herding are common professions and provide much of the calorie intake for the island nation. Their cuisine relies especially on pickled fish, and cured bacon.   It is a coming of age rite to spend a night along high up on the mountain while tending a small fire.   The worship of the god Eilfir is most notable in the veneration of him during the monthly races in his honor. Then during the darkest time of winter the costumes come out for chanting and visiting neighboring family while honoring Eilfir.

Architecture and Clothing

Wattle and dab architecture with stone foundations for common buildings. Stone for fancy buildings. Most unusual are the fancy floating stone foundations for wattle and dab architecture and the mobile archery platforms for defense.   The rich wear fine imported wool with asymmetrical gradient patterns. The less wealthy wear felted loose cut trousers with muted central patterns and thick vests. All tend to wear less clothing than many other cultures.
