Gates of Halick Building / Landmark in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Gates of Halick

The first line of defense to the Town of Ilroor Maror, these gates are run by Jalgoth the Bulwark for Ozgarath the Indulgent.   The gates are two sets of massive stone double doors. They also themselves have a magic about them and can divine the intents of those who pass through them. These intents are made known to the one sitting in the throne topping the gates. The one atop the gates can decide to flood the area with lightning or fire if they disapprove. Manned by members of the Flesh and Steel Brigade , it once was used to fry a tribe of frost giants who were trying to gain control of the town.   On either side and above are rooms carved into the stone walls making it a barracks and home to a portion of the Flesh and Steel.

Purpose / Function

It is unknown who made them or for what purpose. It is likely they actually were originally build to guard the other direction than they now guard over. Why this is the case is unknown to anyone. Most ascribe its construction to the apprentice of Orinfel named Huvora.

Alterations

Runes were added by Dwarves long ago, then more recently the face of the doors has been decorated with a lewd fresco as the request of Jalgoth. This disturbed the prudish who find themselves here looking for refuge from the layers of the Mad Dungeon.

Architecture

Originally Plain, Simple and undecorated in a massive symmetrical and utilitarian design. It has since received centuries of embellishment upon its stone faces. It is believed that the surface of most stone is at least a few inches deeper than during its original construction. The crystals that now jut out the width of a human's palm are believed to have been flush mounted originally.
