Porrengau

The Monastery of Porrengau is located around an old Faerie circle that was sanctified by foreign priests and turned into a holy site. Since then, it has become a popular destination for pilgrims, as well as for those with an interest in the faerie aspects of the world.   Centuries ago, a faerie circle stood on the stony hill next to the Porren River, surrounded by dense forests and mountains. The circle consisted of several standing stones and a central altar. Several paths serpentined their way to the rock, and the circle was reached by a final, difficult climb. When the people of Stamber found the circle and engaged with the fae in the area, they built small bridges to reach the circle with less difficulty. During new moons and the changing of seasons, they gathered in the circle and danced the dance of the moon and sang the song of the stars.   One day, priests from distant lands came and declared the mount sacred, and the altar as that of their gods. Before long, they built a shrine on the rocky hill, using the stones of the circle as the framework. In the Shrine of the Altfae, you can still see these age-old stones now serving as pillars to carry a domed roof. The shrine attracted many clergymen and was expanded and added to over the decades and centuries. Slowly, it started to take the form that it has today. The great Porrengauer Bridge was constructed, offering easier access for large groups and parties.   After years of people travelling to the monastery, a small town started to develop on the slopes across the stream. The secular lord of the land built a castle high up on the cliff in an attempt to exert his dominance over the town and monastery. In truth, the lord holds very little power over these people, and he often stands on his balconies, looking down on the people who are only here to visit the monastery.   The Stone Guards are an old order dedicated to protecting the Faerie Stones. However, over time, the name has become associated with the local law enforcement. The town guards patrol the streets and guard the bridges to the monastery, making sure that only those worthy may enter this holy place.
