Merasbar

"Merasbar, the seat of the Chief of the Meras Clan, has its humble origins in the time before the Burbric Empire, though it was only a small fishing town at the time. The small stone manor of House Karder was surrounded by a wooden palisade that encircled the old town and stones of Meras. When they were conquered by the Burbric Empire, the new overlords built a stone castle on an island off the shore. The old palisade was torn down and a new one erected around a much larger town. The Burbrics saw this as a valuable trade port on the northern shore and were planning to develop it.   Centuries of disaster followed, in which the Empire fell, returned, and fell again. By that time, Merasbar had become a proper city, with a stone wall, shipyard, and docks. The old stones of Meras were made sacred and surrounded by a palisade, while the clan's chief moved into the Burbric Castle as his residence.   These days, Merasbar is still standing and thriving, though it has its problems that it has to deal with. The Clan of Meras has been locked in a blood feud since before anyone can remember, and the two clans would happily see the other wiped off the continent. They used to be neighbors for centuries until the formation of the Alliance of the Lords of Olorlay. Nonetheless, a relatively small clan, Norless, was granted the lands between Meras and Wolfgar to prevent the two clans from fighting out their feud.   Rather than settling the hostilities, this has caused both clans to resent Norless. To make matters worse, the seat of the Chief of Norless is in the city of the same name, only a two-hour march away from Merasbar. The two clans constantly argue about where the border between the two clans should be, resulting in skirmishes and constant bickering between the two.   In an attempt to end one feud, another was born. But at least Meras and Wolfgar aren't at each other's throats anymore."   D. Harewood, Fendalian Cartographer
