Duwyn
Right in the center of The Swamps is the muddy town of Duwyn, named after the Mire of the same name. It is among the largest settlements in the Swamps and has always served as the capital of the County of Duwyn. Since Count Dunkur Hurmuir left to fight in the War, the city has been claimed by Bandit-King Gyn, and put under the command of his luitenant Fasgard. Dunkur’s son, Darstur, is now the Count of Duwyn after his father died. He aims to reclaim his old holdings, but doesn’t have the manpower to overthrow the new Bandit-Kings.
House Hurmuir is among the oldest of the houses of the Swamps. They trace their ancestry back to the legendary Urdegart Acebreth, who was in turn rumoured to be a descendent of the mythical Acid Knight, the first ruler of the Swamp and all creatures in it. They have always taken pride in this ancestry, however unlinkely it may be, and used it to strengthen their right to rule.
While Lord Hurmuir would regularly reside in Duwyn Manor, his actual home was much further south in Hurmuir Tower. These days, the tower has been claimed by Bandit-King Gyn nd Duwyn Manor is the home of Luitenant Fasgard, who rules over Duwyn through fear. The people of Duwyn have become prisoners, and the town walls serve as much to keep them in, as they keep unwanted visotors out. Many people have joined Fasgard and Bandit-King Gyn in hopes for a better life. Those that remain loyal to the old Count are made to suffer.
Duwyn itself has changed much since it fell to the bandits seven years ago. The town’s church is now dedicated to Gyn’s God, Ar-Larakh, and the Old Tower, which used to be a monument of glorious times gone by, is now a prison tower where rebellious folk are made to suffer.
Still, there are those loyal to their old lord. In the Westtower House, people gather in secret and light candles on the highest floors to send signals to people outside the town walls. They have learned that the Count is in the kingdom capital, preparing to return home and reclaim his lands. The people of Duwyn may not have the strength or numbers to defeat the bandits. but they won’t sit idly by when the count needs them the most.
Bandit-King Gyn may rule the Swamps with an iron fist, but its people have not forgotten the Count of Duwyn, Heir of Urdegart Acebreth, Heir of the Acid Knight. They have not forgotten, and eagerly await the return of the Count.
