Duchy of Arnallan

The Duchy of Arnallan, with its vast plains, has long been a part of the Kingdom of Rasfadal; ever since the legendary king Looras the Great conquered and subjugated the Kingdom of Arnallan in 401 AP, over 800 years ago. But the memories of the Arnic people are long, and after many centuries, they still remember the greatness of their kingdom. Its people have never truly surrendered to the kings of Rasfadal and held on to their own culture. Within the Kingdom of Rasfadal there is a clear cultural boundary at the Harrin Run. South of the river the people speak Fendalian, while the people north of the river speak an Arnic dialect, that still has its roots in the old Arnic language. Throughout its history the city of Twyrif has been the seat of the kingdom, and later duchy of Arnallan. It is located at the confluence of two major rivers and heavily fortified. It is the center of trade in the region and home to The Merchants' Guild that oversees trade in all of Arnallan. In the darker corners of the city Is the Whisper Guild, a criminal organisation that has gained significant influence over the past decade, and is now expanding its network to all major cities in Rasfadal. Two centuries ago a group of adventurers acquired the deeds to an abandoned Burbric palace, which they rebuilt and repurposed as the Heroes' Guild, an organisation with the purpose of training adventurers to protect the people of Rasfadal from monsters and supernatural threats. The lord of all these lands is Duke Deiniol of Arnallan. Deiniol is ambitious, manipulative and clever, making him a powerful and dangerous vassal of the king. Deiniol's aunt married the king, which Deiniol has used to forge a claim on the titles of the heirless king. Meanwhile, Deiniol is plotting against his own vassals as well. Through political schemes, Deiniol was prevented from inheriting some of the titles in his own lands, and he is looking to set this right in due time. Until then, he greets his vassals with a smile and invites them to his lavish banquets and feasts.
