Docean

Docean is the capital of the lands of Gaz'roc and one of the locations of Lord Gaz'roc's three thanes. It is a magocracy where even the lowest peasant can become one of the nobility if he shows promise enough. Docean became a major settlement of note, in 2600 2ER when it was designated as one of the three territories to have a thaneship under Lord Gaz'roc. During the The Civil War of Gaz'roc, it was banished deep under the ground for 300 years where it had to quickly adapt and survive in its alien environment. This explains why much of the city cuisine is vastly different, even still, from its neighboring occupants in the lands of Gaz'roc.   Docean is composed of seven districts and the palace and senate grounds overlook them on a plateau above the rest of the city.   The North Gate district, also known as Priestertat's Road, is poorer district in Docean. It was converted as a refugee camp towards the end of the Civil War and never fully recovered. It features one of the smaller gates along the wall and is partially tucked away between the large city and the mountains. Most of the quaries are past the North Gate.   Winstair District is the closest to the palace and senate, located between the plateau, Lightarch, and Nightwell. House Soumral can be found here, as well as the Great Library and the scale-rider race track. Because of its proximity to the ruling house of the current and last four thanes, it s the most affluent district in Docean.   Old Docean is the largest district of the city, encompassing nearly half of the inner city. The origins of the original settlement can be found here and tourist will notice plaques indicating some of the oldest building as they walk the streets. It is home to House DeSmiel, House Dualthel, and House Warroar. Old Docean also leads to the outer port of the city.   The East Gate is an outer district is one of the two main entrances to Docean by land. Many traders and nomadic merchants can be found here. The district extends into the mushroom fields outside of Docean and is often described by visitors as having an earthy smell. Taverns and trade goods here are often less of a burdern on traveler's coin pouches.   Nightwell District, also known as Crafter's Corner, is home to the Arcane Academy and House Amvademy. A large portion of the elven population is situated in this district in part to the house. People travel all over Gaz'roc and the Seven Silver Circle to get to this district and the Academy within. Travellers have discribed this district as like they are stepping into a clock with all its magical and machanical instalations.   Lightarch District, named for the eternal flame braziers on the wall of the South Gate, is the mainland entrance from land into Docean. It is the first district most visitors see and a major trading hub for the city. Goods from all over Gaz'roc can be found here.   New Port district is the recent district built directly on the coast. The building here are often made of wood rather then the stone buildings inside the city. Ships, both by water and air, all dock here carrying goods to and from Gaz'roc and the rest of the Seven Silver Cirlce.

Demographics

Docean is a magocracy that attracts many kinds of people, especially those with magical bloodlines. Elves, humans, gnomes, halflings, and a variety of elemental bloodlines can be found in the city. The ruling house, Soumral, is primarily made up of Ifirits and Slyphs. Since the city has such a diverse selection of citizens, racial tensions are not truly worth mentioning, however the tension between mages and the mundane has always been considerably high. Mundane citizens (or non-magical) are often seen as a second class and not as employable in the general populous.

Government

Docean is one of the Thaneships of Lord Gaz'roc. Its appointed thane acts as head of state and is supported by a council composed of the five Great Arcane Houses. The Thane has much of the same ruling as a king would, though their decisions can be overturned with a two-thirds majority rule of the council or Lord Gaz'roc himself, through the dragon rarely interferes with such "trivial" matters outside of war.

Defences

Docean is surrounded by thick towering city walls which are reinforced by the wardmasters' magic. It is said it is impossible to breach the city, which is why the Cult of Mother had to banish the entire city below the earth as a whole to gain the upper hand in the Civil War.

Assets

Docean is a city of magic ingenuity unmatched anywhere else, save the floating nation of Azure. Here a peasant can become a lord, purely by his magical talents alone. They produce the largest number of magical items, new spells, and magnificent artifact contraptions in all of the Seven Silver Circle.

Guilds and Factions

There are five Great Arcane Houses that make up the bulk of Docean's political structure and guilds. The five houses of Docean are the House of Soumral, the House of DeSemiel, the House of Dualthel, the House of Amvadne, and the House of Warroar. Each house has three representatives who sits on the council of the thane.   House of Soumral: The Soumral family is a long line of jinn descendants who seem to refresh the bloodline's potency every four or five generations. They are arguably one of the most powerful of the five arcane houses as they tend to take the seat of leadership the most. They are all mages with a few exceptions and at least two or three members usually serve on the thane's council in every succession.   The House of DeSemiel: "Patrons of the Knowledge." Is the DeSemiel motto, a proud house that own most of the surviving written scrolls of history in Docean and hold a large collection of scrolls in the library... or at least the accessible portion. They also have a bad reputation of its members getting mixed up in the Twisted Skien. The first defector was Lady Shiresh DeSemiel, the Forgotten One’s wife, who used the power to send Docean deep bellow the surface.   The House of Dualthel: Wardmasters that are greatly relied on in Docean. They suffered the least in the great fall, because of their ability to protect themselves and much of the city. The house is generally seen as heroes and even though they don’t make much effort for political power, they have accumulated much of it. Like the Soumral’s, they tend to be jinn descendants, but instead of being suli’s they have a tendency to be ifrits.   The House of Amvadne: Artificer house well known for making beautiful crafts and magical devices as well as wondrous artifacts. Their biggest income comes from making magical devices for non magical citizens in Docean, which makes up about 30-40% of the city. They are known for playing the long game in politics and often play the political game of chess with Gaz’roc. The Amvadne’s are mostly elven or of elven decent. A few of them were even alive during the Fall.   The House of Warroar: Famous for their battlemages and their support of the arcane academy. After the fall, their house picked up the slack for the defense of Docean as the armies at the time were marching on the Forgotten One’s kingdom.

Architecture

Much of Docean's architecture is made out of the stone from the underdark or the mining quarries in the mountains.

Geography

Docean is in the Northlands of Gaz'roc in the upper left corner next to the ocean coast and the edge of the Spine. The outer walls of West Docean features one of the biggest ports of Gaz'roc, not just to the water but also for air ships visiting from Azure.

Natural Resources

They have vast stocks of giant insect farms, to fire-beetles the size of a horse to grasshoppers the size of a small dog, as well as scale-mounts, giant lizards they ride, and mushroom farms with product the size of trees. All of these are common ingredients in Docinian cuisine.
