The History of The Compendium so far

According to legend, the Library of Ages was completely empty of people when the second librarian entered it's portals. Homer was gone, leached into the shelf of life itself - or so the legend claims.   Where do the librarians come from? That is a story unique to each librarian, but all have a common pattern. The librarians are drawn from story characters whose books are selected to be shelved on the Shelf of Life and who show uncanny ability to see past the universe of their proscribed reality. When one such is found, they are offered the opportunity to become a librarian. These invitations are few, even fewer accept them as acceptance means that the new librarian must leave their universe and all it holds.
