Misurin (Miss-ur-in)

Blessed Eight-Fold, Prophet and Composer, the most Holy Saint of Sunhollow Misurin

After the Eight, there is no one more holy than Misurin. It was they that the Gods sang the Litany to, and entrusted in the composition of the Litany itself. It was they that saw the word and played the song with utmost dedication. It was they, the shadow of the Eight, blessed eight-fold, who gave us song. They are the holiest human person who has ever existed, exists, and will exist.   The gods have gathered their light in Misurin, not as the sun, but as something else. Misurin is the troubadour for the Eight - nothing greater can be said.   -Andantino the Poeticule, "The Song Eternally Heard"
Misurin is the name known to history for a descendent of Latizan slaves in Sunhollow who is instrumental in the birth of The Octan Faith. Their life is a topic scholars have spent centuries trying to decouple from myth and legend, but what is commonly agreed upon is that Misurin was the first chosen by the Octan to perform their work in our world.

Birth

In the area known as Sunhollow, many groups of people brought over as slaves during the Latizan invasion had clinged to the rivers and ruins of the settlements left behind by their former masters. Their religious beliefs were a mish-mash of foreign gods, hero cults, and second-hand worship of The Senden brought by the Heartlands liberators.   The popular myth relates that Misurin was the product of a virgin birth from their mother, Sabina, who fled their home and gave birth along the banks of the river Ciselleria. After being baptized at birth in the eddying stream of the river Cistelleria, Misurin supposedly grew up like a flower (the Sunhollow buttercup is considered the flower of Misurin), and when they had grown to be fair and tall, the Eight spoke to them and sang them the song. The popular myth continues that Misurin stepped from the mud and walked to the nearest village to begin their work. This is of course not canonical within the faith of the Octan - the core belief is that Misurin was mortal, not supernatural, and that the Eight spoke to and through them but did not create them from mud, flowers, or water.   There is very little written about the early life of Misurin. The post-slavery population of the area had high illiteracy rates, and most traditions were oral or musical in nature. It's known that Misurin was born in the region now known as Fiugnaralia Parish somewhere near the river Cistelleria in western Sunhollow. Beyond that, there's little detail until the time Misurin is an adolescent. It's also recorded that Misurin was raised by two parents, Sabina and Danior.

Early Life

Misurin was raised as a cowherd, the trade of their father Danior, in the scrublands near the modern city of Seadego. A local warlord at the time had instituted a tax on cattle that strangled the peasants living in the region, and Misurin's family was targetted for death for failure to pay the tax. It is said that even as a child, Misurin was able to reason with the lord and end the unjust taxation.   The beginning of the Octan faith's modern form began in 2689 AE, when Misurin began wandering and singing the "Litany of the Eight," over a period of 8 days. This song became the foundational holy document of the Octani faith. As a young person, Misurin spoke to the leaders of cults, secret religions, and priests of the Senden, rationalizing with them that their gods and spirits and heroes were simply names for the sixteen gods - Eight true and Eight false.    By the age of 20, the prophet had spread the faith throughout much of Sunhollow, preaching the worship of The Eight and expulsion of the heretical Forbade.
