Andantino the Poeticule

The Poeticule Andantino Michaeleo Faltusa

A famous poet and scribe from the Dark Era. Criticism of their work is mixed.   Born in 28 DE in the city of Cantacittà in the kingdom of Sunhollow, Andantino studied the Poetics at The University of Rose and Violet on the Loch. Author of dozens of famous pieces, several dramas, and multiple essays on historiographical topics, Andantino is best known for being the author of The Epic of Rose and Violet.   Andantino is the subject of many studies for bards and poets who wish to craft epic poems and other forms of historiomythographic stories. He is lauded by many modern poets for his sly humor and subtle integration of oft-blasphemic concepts in his verse. There is still a vigorous debate as to whether he was a genius, madman, heretic or some combination of the three.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Despite a penchant for long-windedness, Andantino wrote precious little about his early life. It's known he was born in Sunhollow. It's also known was raised by tradesmen, specifically a furniture maker and a dog breeder, and that he had two younger siblings.   At some point in his young adulthood, Andantino left Sunhollow for the city of Dayne-on-the-Loch during the Reign of the Sovereign Riven III.   The first appearance of Andantino in writing appears in the household records of Marion Tarla Penrose, the Countess of Bretford, when he became the noblewoman's page. The countess was married to Cerran, Duke of Binmorough, the second son of the Sovereign Riven III and the position brought Andantino into the courts of the Dayne and Wein nobles. He worked as a diplomat, historian, courtier, civil servant, and poet, as well as working for the Sovereign Riven III from 52 DE to 55 DE as a clerk.   In 78 DE, the early stages of the Tyrant's War, Riven III invaded Onera and Andantino traveled with Duke Cerran of Binmorough as an attache to his forces. In 80 D, he was captured during the siege of Raskier. Cerran paid 26 gold crowns for his ransom.

Education

Andantino was educated at The University of Rose and Violet on the Loch in the first century of the Dark Age. While much of the writing produced by the University at the time focused on large or academic concepts, Andantino's work often explored the minute of topics in sometimes soporific detail.

Intellectual Characteristics

Andantino's work suggests a sort of obsession or graphophila - while there are many pieces of beauty and importance in their works, there is also a staggering amount of detail regarding relatively mundane topics. A common challenge for first-year students at the The University of Rose and Violet on the Loch and a sort of rite of passage is to recite "The Depths of the Kiverwick River," a lengthy and detailed account of the many bends and turns of the Kiverwick River, as well as measurements of depth and width.    Why Andantino felt it necessary to write lengthy dissertations on mundane topics is a subject of debate for modern scholars, who have various theories ranging from madness, encoded messages, or bawdy subtext.
