Belmont Hotel

Built in 1874 by Genevieve Joyeuse to outshine all other hotels in the bustling Merchant District, it has been a gem of the area for nearly 150 years. It was damaged during The Troubles of the early 20th century, but the Joyeuse family remained committed to its upkeep, pouring much of their suffering fortunes into its repair. Their investment was well rewarded, as the hotel remains as prestigious and prosperous as ever, even as the north side of the river developed into the new financial hub.   The hotel sits right along the banks of the southern river, boasting its own docks since 1881. It sprawls across three city blocks, with plentiful outdoor gardens, three grand ballrooms, two full bars, both indoor and outdoor pools, and 113 glamorous hotel suites. It is simply THE place for upscale social events. In fact, Winegarden families almost always insist on weddings being held here, particularly for their first born children. It is a tradition going back to the first days of the Belmont.   Winegarden Weddings   Another long-standing tradition are the swans. Purported to be the favorite animal of Genevieve's husband Ivan, they can be found worked into the finishings of nearly every part of the hotel. Even with modern remodeling, the family insists on keeping the theme alive in the most tasteful ways possible . There is a bevy of domesticated swans on the grounds at all time, usually numbering between seven and twelve, and an official Swan Master employed to care for them. Starting in the 1930s, it was very popular for brides at weddings to arrive aboard the Swanboat – a majestic ferry in sparklingly white. The trend lasted up until the 1970s, and has been gaining a resurgence in modern weddings.   The The Geiss/ Masamune Wedding was held here.
