Vestige

Basic Information

Anatomy

Vestiges floating in the Deepest Dreaming are roughly arranged in the previously living gods' most favored form, but pieces are missing. Not quite rot or decay, as the gods are forgotten and the memories of them escape even the dreams of mortals, pieces break off and drift towards Ghaenor, the Eternicorpus Vortex. For those that died to violence, their wounds are visible on the Vestige.

Biological Traits

Vestiges are usually massive, continent sized or larger.

Genetics and Reproduction

Vestiges are born when gods die, a rare event that marks the beginnings and endings of epochs. When a god dies, their bodies are thrust into the Deepest Dreaming, a tremendous shutter runs through the entire space followed by a bellowing trumpet or bell sound, accounts vary.

Growth Rate & Stages

As the gods are forgotten and the memories of them escape even the dreams of mortals, pieces break off and drift towards Ghaenor, the Eternicorpus Vortex. Their divine flesh dessicates, pulling tight and fossilizing around their bones if they have them. As this crystalline flesh breaks off and drifts towards Ghaenor, bones are exposed to the aether. Eventually, these bones also crumble and break apart, so that when they finally succumb to the Eternicorpus Vortex it is usually in the form of a collection of bone shards surrounded by a dense nebula of fossilized flesh dust and the final scraps of dreams of the dead god.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

While Zilla isn't the only settlement built inside and on a Vestige, it is the largest. It's Zillans therefore, that are typically found on the uninhabited Vestiges, mining them for resources and speeding along their decay. They have learned to utilize every piece of the Vestige for food, building material, and manufacturing.

Average Intelligence

Vestiges are aware, but only barely. They drift aimlessly in the Deepest Dreaming, experiencing their half-existence as one might a particularly abstract dream. If roused by a worshipper, they become aware of that worshipper's immediate surroundings at a molecular level, though they have very little power and are basically relegated to simply answering questions or giving instructions. There are rituals which can increase a worshipper's connection to a Vestige, thereby allowing the Vestige more control of their immediate area but this is still a far cry from their former godhood.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Vestiges are dead, but gods do not die so long as they are remembered. They posses little to no awareness, except where their names are uttered. They become vaguely aware of the person who uttered their name and nearly everything about that person's immediate surroundings until the small spark of consciousness fades. Some people are so invested in who the Vestige was that they carry the name as a mark on their own soul. The Vestige is always aware of these people as if they had just uttered their name.
