Ridder Species in The Chronicles | World Anvil

Ridder

Make sure you keep that light on at all time while where down here, we don't need a Ridder back trying to make us its meal. - Gear Engineer
Ridder are one of the many results of harsh chemical mutation that were caused by Gear Nation back in its early days. Though most mutated animals were wiped out due to extermination and environmental collapse, the Ridder was one of the few that managed to survive when they began to live deep underground. They are considered a nuisance as they tend to find their way into electrical wiring and other types of machinery. This cause power failure and structure failure where every they go. But due to their size they can be a problem to deal with, especially in large numbers they can easily overwhelm an grown man. Which is why a special task force known as the Deep Scorchers was created to get rid of them

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ridders

Biological Traits

Ridders are rodents that born into darkness and are able to see in complete darkness. Which makes them sensitive to light making them run away from the sight of it. Their claws allow them to climb many claws with ease and their jagged teeth contain a neurotoxin that capable of bringing down prey that is far larger than itself leading to a slow painful death. They also have a knack of chew through things to make their nests whether it way be earth or electrical wiring. Due to their mutation as well they have no hair on their bodies either.

Genetics and Reproduction

Ridders are fast breeders as pregnancies' only last for two weeks to produce over a dozen pups.

Growth Rate & Stages

Ridder are able to reach adulthood at a fast rate which take only a few months. During that time they learn to use how much neurotoxin to use when taking down prey and their claws become larger to burrow with.

Ecology and Habitats

Ridders prefer to live in dark places with little to no light, often underground where they build nests and tunnels to get around faster.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ridder eat just about anything they can get their claws on whether it be garbage or people. Always moving in groups, they will use their numbers t bring down larger prey together to feast on. What food is left will be brought back to their nest to feed their young.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Ridders despite the environment they live in are very social creature often forming large groups to form nests to produce their offspring. These groups sizes can often span from fifty to two hundred if the nest grows large enough. The groups are family oriented and will take care of one another to survive. Often bring what ever food they can find to the next for the young to each first. But they can become very territorial when other Ridder groups are near and will aggressive and attack them. It is quite known that that they can be cannibalistic since they do not care what food they can get. They will even feast on their own when they are wounded and sick since they are no longer useful to the group.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Most people just want to take the teeth from a Ridder to use it neurotoxin as either a weapon or to research to create medicine.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Ridders are found deep underground in the sewers and tunnels that make up Gear Nation

Average Intelligence

Ridders are highly intelligent creature that are capable of communicating with other Ridders to form family groups or packs to survive. Often using smell and sounds to communicate with one another. They also know how to coordinate with one another in search of food and take down prey.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Ridders rely on sight, smell and sound to make their way through their environment. With their sight allowing them to see in complete darkness, they can smell thing to up for a mile and their hearing allows to know how far a sound was make.
