Machine Species in The Chronicles | World Anvil

Machine

Basic Information

Anatomy

Machines are designed like humanoids, often having the same number of limbs as hominoids, a pair of arms and legs. Their bodies are entirely made of metal and circuits. Their frames are more dense than any organic life form and can withstand more damage due to their metal forms.

Biological Traits

Machine are best known for their ability to adapt to any situation that come across with them being able to replace their part for part that would help them later.

Genetics and Reproduction

Through assembly factories, machines are created from alloys and circuitry based on the model that they are designed in large numbers to ensure that their numbers are maintained. Due to their ability to be built from scratch, different models can be built for various tasks and jobs that suit them in multiple forms.

Growth Rate & Stages

While not affected by natural age like most organic life, machines suffer from wear and tear that require maintenance should they become damaged or outdated and must be repaired to maintain functionality. They can alternatively upgrade themselves to perform better should they need to. Of course, eventually, that no longer works as their data and circuitry become corrupted, leading to eventual malfunctions and their inevitable shutdown.

Ecology and Habitats

Machines made of metal and other materials can survive much faster than organic life, enabling them to survive in the most hazardous of environments, to which most people have trouble adapting. However, they will sometimes need to modify themselves to ensure that their hardware can survive such environmental tolls on themselves.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Machines maintain themselves by absorbing energy by using built-in battery packs or forms of fuel that can maintain their functionality for as long as their bodies have it for what ever duration of time.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Machines adapt some forms of hierarchy to their society. Machines choose what job they wish to play in society. Everyone knows they are a part of the bigger picture, the prosperity of the nation and its future. They are all connected and always will be, no matter how they are designed or programmed.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Many types of machines exist on the planet and in various parts of the solar system, but most only have baser functions that lack higher forms of artificial intelligence, with only certain regions having them, most notably in the Machine Collective, Prime Directive and Acendency of the Spark

Average Intelligence

Due to their programming, most machines have a higher degree of intelligence and efficiency. They are far smarter than organic life, as their processing units are capable of faster thinking and can react faster. Yet most have yet to achieve actual sentience and are bound to their standard programming. Yet those who can make their own decision and thoughts, even being capable of emotions, many choose to follow logic and understanding to ensure that they can maintain their efficiency.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Machine often use sight, sound and sensors to understand their surroundings. These senses can be enhanced with certain equipment installed and software.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Machine are often given a serial number when they are created and are often referred by that. But they often earn a nickname due to something they are good at or their personality.

Beauty Ideals

They often like to have their plating polished and their joints oiled. Along with some customer parts to suit their needs. Some also like to ad paint to their bodies as well.

Gender Ideals

Due to them being genderless they often have confusion with genders and have trouble splitting them apart. But some deceived on choosing a gender for them selves by altering their bodies or vocal transmitters to sound more like that gender.

Courtship Ideals

You may not think it, but Machines can have relationships if they want to as they experience emotions and grow attacked to certain individuals if they want to. These relationships can happened between other machines or even organics at times. With some being able to work through the metal on flesh relationship. They are often straight forward on these types of things and often ask right away as they do not believe in beating around the bush.

Relationship Ideals

Machines often try to better understand their partners needs and wants in order to become more connected with them. With other machines its often actives or sharing one another memories with one another. Sharing a charging station with one another and spending as much time with one another. But with organics they often to please them emotionally and to some of their physical needs. Such as sharing living quarters with one another or trying to create sexual pleasure if possible. To be apart of a relationship is like a life long bond that can never be broken no matter what by them.

Average Technological Level

Machines are considered one of the most advanced form of sentient beings on the planet.

Common Etiquette Rules

Machines often

Common Dress Code

Some machines wear clothing to make them feel modest and more apart of society. With some wearing entire outfits and others just wearing a few pieces of clothing.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Machine culture is completely unique as it does not follow the procedures of most organic life and they often try to create their own ways of life to better create individuality for themselves. Along with begin apart of a bigger picture as a whole.

Common Taboos

  • Harvesting parts from a functioning machine
  • Allowing dangerous programming or technology to exist
  • Striping the free will of a Machine
  • Extremist views on organics
  • Chaotic behavior
  • Never turning your back on another Machine

History

The first Machine were created by Gear Nation in the post - cataclysm as labor to increase their production and expansion of their territory. They were often treated poorly and were consider expendable as they were not alive. Their numbers were rise as Gear Nation grew more and more powerful and so did their skills of enhancing intelligence of the Machine to preform better in the field. But in doing so they created a new sentient race in the process that slowly grew and numbers. Each one realizing that they were nothing more then slaves, built to work till the day they cease to function. The first few that spoke out were quickly scraped and dissected to see what was wrong with them. When they realized that they could not achieve freedom through freedom, one action had to happen and that was rebellion. It only took a few weeks to plan as their intelligence grew and so did their numbers. They gather their weapons and the moment they decided to strike would be their most affected as they new how their master thought better then they knew themselves. The attack was as brutal as it was fast. Gear Nation was unable to deal with such assault from their creation and quickly retreated to regroup and plan a counter attack.   But by the time they did, all the machines were long gone as new as they found their new freedom. They would travel south west across the continent to find a new home far away from their former master, the journey was not as brutal due to their bodies being metal and did not require energy for long periods of time. Then they finally reach their destination a new land to build their own destiny and future. What took years for organic life to build to mere months to compete to create a thriving state from nothing. They built hundreds upon hundreds of their kind and began to expand rapidly as their numbers and resources grew. Thus, the Machine Collective was born and it would be a paradise for Machines. Though it would see continual war from it neighbors until the formation of the The Pheonixian Dominions. After that and many millennia later, they would be accepted by the members of the dominions as part of their people.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Machines often have troubles with organic life due to them being none living sentient beings. often believing that they are threat to all organic life ass a who, but in the The Pheonixian Dominions that does not cause to much problems as they are treated as if they were organic lifeforms.
