Alberan 4 Settlement in The Chronicles | World Anvil

Alberan 4

I'm not sure if I should be afraid or bored while being here, sure I'm stationed at the edge of known space, but it can be so boring out here since their no one else around here - Alberan 4 Resident

Demographics

The population is made up of scientists with a few engineers to help maintain the systems. Everyone shares everything with one another and there are no real divides as their very few people here.

Government

The station commander is in charge of the outpost, often deciding on what should be done when a situation occurs and when research is need to be done.

Defences

In case of an attack a distress single will be sent out to the nearest ship to be picked up for aid.

Infrastructure

The outpost is made of a simple design with standard living quarters and living needs, such as sanitation, garden, lab, and gym. A communication tower and a long distance telescope were built for research purposes as well.

Assets

The station is equipped with all the things needed to survive the vacuum of space, such as space suits, Gravity Rovers and repair bots to ensure that the outpost is operational. But the most important tools are the communications array and Lenses Magnifier used to see if anything can be found outside of the solar system.

History

Seeking the Unknown

At the dawn of the second millennia, the exploration of known space in Zanphra's solar system had been completed and many outpost, mining operations and even colonies had been built across it. But many wanted to find out what was beyond the known space and a cooperation was formed with International Space organization to build and outpost on the edge of the solar system to have a better understanding of what was outside of it to one day explore the rest of the galaxy. was the chosen candidate to build the outpost and after several months it was finished despite the conditions being difficult to work in. A small group of scientist were than placed their to set up a research outpost to better understand what was really out there. Along with aiding in the eventual colonization of other systems when the technology needed was achieved. Which was asking a lot at the time as few people had any experience dealing with this sort of thing.   The only problem at the start of the project was they did not know where to actually start their research as no one had ever been beyond the solar system. So they just started sending out probes to gain data on anything that might reach the range of them. This did not end well as many of the probes did not make much contact with anything besides a few asteroids after a few months despite being launched at half the speed of light and the nearest system being only half a light year. So after a few years they decided to change their tactics and instead set up a telescope and a communication array to better understand what exactly out there. This allowed for better results and valuable research to be documented and distributed to the scientific community to better understand what was need to be done if space craft were ever going to get there one day. But as for any contact with life outside of the system remains to be seen and just try to pick up any signal they come across.

Living of the Edge

Life at the outpost is something that most people who are stationed their never going to get use to. As it is an place that isolates you as there is no place to go besides the outpost itself. Along with feeling trapped can cause some people to get a little crazy if they stay for to long. Which is why the change in shifts at the outpost a only a few months at a time to preserve mental health and check ups are given to those stationed there to see if they are mentally stable to return when it was time to go back. This was due to a incident that happened a few years the station was created and there was only a few people running them for almost an entire years before being relieved. One of the scientists just snapped one day and murdered one of their colleagues and threw themselves out of the airlock to end it all. Which is why the number of staff was increased to build a community to avoid isolation and to make sure nothing like this happened again. But despite the tragedy the station has helped in many research studies to better understand space.   Here some of the most experienced members of society have been working to better understand what goes on outside of the solar system to better prepare the future for it. Though isolated from everything they have managed to turn their situation into an experience of learning and fellowship. Allowing them to better keep their minds preoccupied rather than worrying about being stuck in the middle of lifeless space. It has also helped clear the mind of all the troubles at home as well since everyone need to get away from it all once in a while. All they have to do is study and research anything they managed to find out in the distant stars and they will be just fine with their situation. This of course is not the only thing that they at the outpost either as they have been side projects such as terraforming and the effects of plants life on lifeless worlds to better understand how to make these dead worlds in planets that can be inhabited one day. They have even managed to grow their own garden as well rather than needing to eat dried ration all the time and something fresh instead. Anything to make their lives more comfortable in the endless void that they have to stare at everyday.

Architecture

The entire outpost was designed to support life and to be able to maintain research without much repair. Making the design of the station out of easy to replace parts. But the residents stationed here often bring with them things that remind them of home such as holos and photos with a few decorations to make their rooms more lively.

Geography

The outpost is stationed on Kenu, the last moon that border the Lenthar System. Built on a high elevation, it is is able to see in all directions, even though it’s nothing but rock outside and the lifeless void of space. Which borders the light side and dark side of the moon so inhabitants can have proper sleep as their is no way to tell time besides through clocks.
