Sarenrae Character in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Sarenrae

Sarenrae (a.k.a. The Dawnflower)

Sarenrae is the goddess of suns, stars, redemption, and healing, and is one of the oldest deities known to the galaxy. Although frequently associated with Mataras and Golarion, she exists in numerous forms across the cosmos, such as the Veskarium's Firescale.

Holy Books & Codes

Sarenrae's main religious text is The Birth of Truth and Light, available for free on almost every infosphere in the galaxy. An abridged version of the text, the Essences of Sarenrae, is comprised of songs and poems whose characters exemplify what Sarenrae expects of her faithful, and are often quoted in prayer.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Sarenrae is almost always depicted as an angel with flaming wings, although her characteristics vary over time and by culture. As some archaic civilizations still worship their local sun directly, Sarenrae may also take the form of a radiant ball of light, although this is rare.

Tenets of Faith

Sarenrae preaches compassion and peace, and favors those who study healing disciplines, or bring light into the darkness. As an archon of hope, she promises that the sun will always rise, and that victory will come. Of note, she is also a proponent of redemption, and urges her followers to cleanse their foes of the darkness. If such a task is impossible, her dogma is to strike without mercy, and ensure that such creatures are destroyed entirely.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Sarenrae's goals are considered simple when compared to her fellow deities, but when the scope of her influence is taken into account, those wise to her ways see the complexity. Sarenrae wishes for all goodly life to be fostered, and to embrace the purity of the light. This means fresh food, clean water, adequate shelter, modern healing practices, and nigh-infinite energy for everyone in the galaxy, all while staving off the constant advances of the darkness.
