The Tram Lines

"The Trams are wonderful artifacts of unknown origin used only by brave or stupid enough explorers.
Massive metal boxes decorated with floral patterns, hanging on the metal line and moving with tremendous speed.
No lift, no mount, no vehicle in The Pit will take you to the destination as fast as Trams."
Right now there are 10 different lines coursing through the whole Pit. The longest ones measuring around 70 kilometers.
Some go very close to the Surface, some ride around the center of the Pit, some go down to its deepest, darkest parts, where no light ever reaches.

The carts

From the outside, a single cart looks like a metal box, 3 meters wide and high, and 10 meters long. The half meter above its floor, there are 1 meter high windows on every side of the cart. Its sides are covered with floral patterns.
There are 3 pairs of doors on both of the sides of the cart that open only when the tram reaches the stop.
On the roof of the tram, there are rows of segmented metal bars connected to the railway above them, that resemble legs of the insects.   Looking inside through the windows, the cart is completely empty if not for the 6 small metal boxes, each near one of the doors.
Whenever someone pays the travel fee, a metal bench and shelf for their baggage unfold from the floor and the roof of the cart.
This way, the cart can produce up to the 30 of seats (15 benches, each for 2 people) and still fit over 60 people inside or it could fit over 100 standing passengers. It can also carry up to 15 tons of cargo. When the first fee is paid, the cart also produces a single schedule of the stops with the estimated time of arrival and the map of the stops of the line.
If it gets too dark, the cart will also produce some lights, bright enough to read a book inside and see the outside of the cart without any difficulties.   It has been tried many times, but it is impossible to break off or open any part of the cart.

Danger of traveling by trams

There is an unwritten rule that says no one should ride the trams to the Depot or the last stop on their line.
It was established mainly because no one ever returns from there.
It is easy to know why seeing as the Depot is one big nest of bloodthirsty beasts.
However, it was never discovered why the last stop is also dangerous.
There are rumors that the beasts of the past learned where the lines ended so they settled there to make it easier for them to feed on the passengers of the trams.   Even when not traveling to those two places, there is a big chance that all of the passengers of the Tram will just disappear between two stops.
What is interesting, their belongings and the cargo will be left completely untouched (because of that, trams are often used just to send the cargo without any passengers, but even then the fee is still needed to be paid).
There are, however, people who can travel by the trams without the danger of ever disappearing.
Whenever they are in the cart, all of the other passengers will also be completely safe.
Because of that, some of them become the "conductors", traveling by the trams from almost one end of their line to another, taking an additional fee from the passengers for ensuring their safety.

Travel fee

Each Tram cart is equipped with 6 silver metal boxes, each near one of the doors of the cart. Each box has plant-like patterns carved in itself and has two slots in its upper wall, one long but very narrow and the second one that is shorter and wider. To activate the Tram, one single silver coin is needed.
Coins like these can be found almost everywhere in old buildings of The Pit. The coins go into the shorter slot of the box.
The second slot is intended for the Tram Pass, a small, multi-use ticket that can only be found in the darkness of the Depot, an old ruin near the middle of the Pit (on the most outside part that the humans and other beings can reach), filled completely with the monsters.

The movement

It is unknown what generates their power, but carts can travel through the Pit without stopping with the velocity reaching 30km/h.
As such, even the longest of the lines take the cart something around 2 hours to reach its final stop.
