The Climbers' Luck Tradition / Ritual in The Call of The Tree | World Anvil

The Climbers' Luck

Climbers' Luck is a game people came up with to test their climbing skills, speed, endurance and as the name says - luck.
The game requires a tall wall, in which an unspecified number of holes is made.
Then, you put an equal number of cave crayfish (they like to pinch and are worth 0 points) and colorful balls into the holes.
The holes higher up have balls with colors indicating more points.
This represents that the bigger risk (fall from a higher place) brings greater rewards.   Then you need players.
Usually, there are between two and ten participants in the game.
They can be divided into teams or fight everyone against each other.
Each participant gets a basket that they wear on their back.
  The match lasts 10 minutes.
Normal rules state that you can't punch, kick or grab other players.
Because of that, in team-based matches, there are often 'blockers', players who impede the climb for others.   After the match ends referee counts which team or person got the highest number of points.

Variations

In some parts of The Pit the rules or even the playing field of Climbers' Luck change.
In some places, the players don't get the baskets and have to climb down with every ball they get.
In some, there are obstacle courses you need to get through before you get to the wall.
In some physical contact (punches and grabbing) are permitted.
In some, the playing field is located in the dangerous area (near monsters' hunting grounds or inside of an anomaly) or has added obstacles such as falling sacks of sand/rocks (sometimes players of opposing teams can throw them at climbers) or pendulums.
