Glistening algae

"The Pit is a dangerous place, I can tell you that without a doubt, kid.
But there are small miracles everywhere and one of them is glistening algae.
Sometimes when the water drips through the cracks in the walls, it forms the ponds and lakes.
And you must know that elements flowing through the air here can affect the growth of all living things.
So when there is enough Light around the reservoirs, the glistening algae can start to grow.
So what's special about these things?
First, they give off a slight, white glow.
You wouldn't notice it normally, but it can light up the complete darkness.
Second, if you enter the pond they are growing in, your wounds will start to close, and most of the diseases you have, natural or not, will weaken in their symptoms and virality.
It won't cure you, but it can ease your pain.
That's why there are a lot of hospitals and sanatoriums around them.
Another reason would be because you can't carry them out of their environment.
The moment you do, they shrivel up and die.
If you don't leave the area they grow in, you can cook them up and eat them.
They have a bland, a little sweet flavor but they fill you up pretty good, so if you don't care about the taste and don't want to starve, then enjoy.
I also heard that some people living near them have found out some dishes that pretty great with them."

Basic Information

Anatomy

They look very similar to kelps (long leafs growing out of stem-like stipes), and like them, they form "forests" in the water.
The thing that distinguishes them is their blue color, the glow they produce and that they are almost transparent.
They can measure up to 20m, depending on the depth of the reservoir they grow in.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They feed on the Light element flowing through the environment.
