Lea'tal
Lea'tal is a town in Northern Dulvar's Rosdale Valley region. It is currently controlled by the Ereban Empire and is used as a travelers' hub between Fort Maris to the southwest and deeper areas of the Empire, including Tumaris and the Tejas Wildwood to the north.
In addition, a support garrison was established there by the Ereban Military, and it is seen easily as a sea of tents in the fields to the northwest of the town. As such, the town guard is supplemented with military personnel to keep the peace.
Industry & Trade
The passing of travelers supports Lea'tal headed north from the border or south to the border; however, the economy's primary driver is the garrison there. To support it, Lea'tal has several smithies, fletchers, and other support structures to augment the garrison there, providing a variety of resources to them. The locals supplement local trade via bartering rather than currency. Communally, gathers bring materials to the makers, makers create and sell their wares to the military, and the military, in exchange, funds services for the city, meaning necessities are provided. Outsiders still pay for food, drink, shelter, and wares, but they may find them here cheaper since the empire funds Lea'tal generously. The money used in outsider trade is considered more of a tax collected by the empire for using public resources, also allowing them to sell off surplus that isn't needed by the military.
History
Lea'tal was founded in the later years of the First Age by dark elves living in the valley. Because of their somewhat isolationist conception, due to them having recently surfaced and separated from the Drow in the Underdark, the town of Lea'tal was formed on a communal basis where the dark elves supported one another and never implemented a currency system. This reflects today, as it remains a unique economy that isn't found anywhere else.
As it grew, Lea'tal began to supplement the growth of Midgard to the south, as it could not expand further. This led Lea'tal, only a short day's walk away, to take in the overflow and provide travel between the mountains and the valley.
The Ereban Empire
Once the empire took over Norther Dulvar due to the collapse of Vor'cral, Lea'tal was seen as a strategic position to garrison soldiers in the south to thwart off any attacks that could come from over the mountains. This led to the garrison being established in the fields northwest of the town, allowing the town to instead supplement and support in exchange for the empire funding the town. This was well received, as travel was reduced since the mountains were closed to trade, and the town needed to subsidize the losses.Ereban-Demagan War
While the fall of Midgard startled those who lived in Lea'tal, the empire promised extreme measures and built a wall around the town to aid in its defense. In addition, the agreement between the town and the military led to a massive increase in needs and thus funding, allowing the town to expand the current infrastructure it is seen with today, with several production centers for military hardware as well as some garrison buildings being constructed to support more strategic commands that may be present during military engagements. Such was the case when Lord Colonel Ezokoth utilized Lea'tal for his base of operations for his campaigns into Demaga via the mountains to the south.
