Family names tend to be inherited from the professions, characteristics, or places the first forefathers of the family hailed from or cared about.

Major language groups and dialects

The Citilian have adopted Common Trade as their primary language with Pinerese and Zodallos often taught to children as secondary languages. However Citilians welcome and encourage subcultures and ethnicities to use their own forms of communication alongside the Common Trade.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

A birth is noted by little celebrations outside of the immediate family. To bless the baby with good fortune and good health, each family member living within the household will gift the newborn with something they have made themselves. As a newborn will traditionally remain indoors for the first month of their lives, family members will wear a yellow ribbon on them to announce the baby's birth to the community. Extended family members and close friends will then choose whether to offer good wishes to the family or a gift of their own. Acquaintances and members of the community will also express good wishes to the family.

Coming of Age Rites

A different ritual is used when a person is due to celebrate their seventeenth birthday. As this is the year a young person becomes an adult, they will instead prepare to take part in the Festival of Blossoms the first time it happens after their seventeenth birthday.

Funerary and Memorial customs

It is traditional to burn the bed of a deceased person. It's supposed to stop the departing spirit from becoming attached to this world. The smoke is supposed to also help guide them to the realm of Edon, where they will be judged and sent on to their final resting places. A period of mourning will
