Mechanoids
"There can be no peace without law.”Mechanoids are mechanical constructs originating from the Divine Machine.
Creation: Mechanoids are created from minuscule spirits called "sparks", that are actually tiny parts of the overdeity Primus.
These sparks then to go on to inhabit and pilot a mechanical construct body, much like a golem.
If the mechanoid is ever destroyed, the spark abandons its mechanical shell and escapes back to the divine machine to inhabit a new body forged in its great forges.
Order above all else: Mechanoid bodies are made of steel and sorcery, not flesh and blood. They do not tire, never sleep, never hesitate or question, they cannot be swayed from their purpose and their optics can pierce all illusions. They are commanded by the Network and the divine machine to uphold Order in the Brass Realms. They mainly do this by defending the divine machine and by fighting Outsiders in Limbo, but can appear anywhere, including both the material world and the Spirit World.
The Network: Throughout all of the Divine Machine exists the Network; a telepathic form of communication that originates from the Great Mechanism and tells the Mechanoids what they do. The network also supplies the Mechanoids with energy; without support from the network a Mechanoid begin running out of energy. It will also not receive new orders and either follow the last order it was given or try to re-establish contact. If a disconnected Mechanoid is unable to re-establish a connection, it will eventually power down or self-destruct.
Endless Numbers Mechanoids may look strange to a Human but they are a terrifying foe. They have no sense of self-preservation in the pursuit of their task and their numbers are endless. They will simply throw themselves at their foe, dying in the thousands to achieve their objective with no hesitation, if that is what the Network wants. Alternatively they have powerful specialist units to fulfill almsot any role in either combat or support roles.
The Mechanoids are also so numerous that they can (and have) destroyed entire worlds through sheer numbers. They are made to fight the relentless hordes of outsiders to protect the foundations of reality and they can never falter in this duty.
Types of Mechanoids
There are many types of mechanoid platforms, designed for a variety of purposes. Some of them are listed here.Standard platforms
Standard platforms are a versatile combination of tools and weaponry able to function for many tasks. The most common platform used for combat in massed assault.Crawler platform
Small platforms equipped with enhanced sensors and able to fit into tight spaces. They are mainly used by the network as scout platforms and to perform maintenance in small crevices of the divine machine.Hierarchs
Hierarchs are special mechanoids capable of extending the reach of the Network beyond the Divine Machine, across Realm Shells and incredible distances. They are akin to field-commanders for the mechanoids; imbued with a larger spark and able to process tremendous amounts of data they guide and command other mechanoids on how to carry out the network's will.Judges
Mechanoid Judges are special models sent out alone or in small groups to deal with grave threats to the Brass Realms. They are imbued with very powerful sparks and a direct connection to the network, granting them enough power to rearrange the laws of reality around them if needed. In case one is ever destroyed, that only means that several of them are going to show up in the vicinity in short order. They are hunter-killer drones of the highest order and when one shows up, their target better start running, for resistance is futile.Lords of Order
Lords of orders are great hierarchs and command nodes in the mechanoid network. They are akin to great generals or administrators. They are the only mechanoids with what could be described as "personalities", though they are still rather literal in their speech and mannerisms.Notably Lords of order can answer mortal summons - much like spirits can. Though getting their attention is a rather involved process.
Listed here are the most well-known Lords of Order and a brief description on them.
Midas - The golden King
Midas is the epitome of authority and orderliness. He obsesses over procedure, institutions, legitimacy and mandates. Many leaders across the realms have petitioned him for assistance on how to improve their realms and governments, and midas always responds, though often they do not like his answers - correct as they are.
Damocles - The Judge
Damocles judges - impartial, emotionless, utterly dedicated. He does not care what the terms of a law or contract are, only that they are applied to the fullness of the extent of the agreement. He is called upon often by the mortals of the Realms in the hall of concordance in Ezria to negotiate agreements and settle disputes.
Galatea - The Duty
Like a statue come to life, Galatea is less a person and more an animated persona crafted to fulfill whatever duty she has been assigned in that iteration. She will do whatever it takes to fulfill her mission, no matter the cost to herself or those around her. Calling upon her is thus something done only if one clearly knows what it entails. Galatea will see her duty done, with inhuman precision and a cold beauty, with blood on her hands and steel in her bones.
Appearance
Mechanoids are Mechanical Constructs of Brass, Bronze, Steel and Copper.Their shapes and sizes very greatly, based on what that Mechanoid's purpose is.
Many mechanoids are multi-purpose.
