The Jayjay Berry Species in The Black Thorne Continent | World Anvil

The Jayjay Berry

The Jayjay berry is a special species of plant, only growing in one part of the continent.
The plant is borderline impossible to grow domestically but many try as it is capable, when processed correctly, to put anyone to sleep.
Either slowly when diluted or immediately when fed or taken directly into the body.
They spread fast but do not seed unless in the right conditions which involve being eaten by creatures that enjoy high altitudes. Best preferred by creatures such as the Mountain Eagles.

Basic Information

Anatomy

It's a small tree that lives on high rocky plains with the root being green and mostly lives on the outside and has cup like root edges which hold dew like droplets. These are used to collect water. The plant grows fairly fast and can live in limited light, mostly making homes between rocks at high altitudes.

Genetics and Reproduction

The way they reproduce is rather unique, as they reproduce as seeds. The seeds are created asexually. Every individual seed has half the needed chromosomes and are formed in hibernation. This hibernation is only broken in the acids that live in the stomach or intestine. There they form tendrils that link to another seed and produce a viable seed that is the defecated out of the body.
Growing out of that as winged seeds, far smaller and more numerous which trampled across the world and cross the area and grown.

Growth Rate & Stages

The growth rate is actually very fast with many viable seeds being formed. Unfortunately the conditions for a Jayjay seed to grow are quite special.
  • Stage one, is the Semi Seed
  • Stage two, the joining phase.
  • Stage three, the release phase.
  • Stage four, the settling and growth phase
