Monster Hunters

This is one of the most well-paid institutions in the continent.

They support some of the most open and free lifestyles in the Black Thorne. But it’s also the most dangerous career choice leading to thousands of dead as they chase the dream of independence and wealth.

These jobs are varied, ranging from making poison clear a house of cockroaches to hunting and city killing dragons.
From creature extermination to hunting poachers, and animal conservation.
The scale and danger of the duty defines payment.

Career

Qualifications

There are None. If you want to be a Tail Chaser, then good news. You Are A Tail Chaser.

  On the other hand, if you want to be a living Tail Chaser. You need to have a level of knowledge or experience in which ever animal you want to hunt.

  Adaptation is key. Specific knowledge is not the most vital as many Tail Chasers will cross over to new environments. A general knowledge of nature is vital for survival.

Wizards are considered the most durable for the job, though little beats a specialist in a specific environment or creature.

Career Progression

There is no career up growth outside of reputation.

Payment & Reimbursement

Payment is generally governmental, paid by chieftains, kings, majors, territories and countries. The payment is as high as the risk. So, it's rare for a wealthy Tail Chaser to be cavalier when the work starts.

They bring back proof in the form of tails or skins.

Other Benefits

The money and the bad boy reputation. Many become weary of hunters but attracted as most Tail Chasers almost HAVE to be at their physical peak and at peak competence. To be in the presence of a monster hunter is to taste adventure and freedom.

Purpose

Creating a bond or drawing a line between society and nature. This varies from mining animal extracts to conservation.

Social Status

Average to Low. People can get very rich from being a Tail Chaser but most, despite how useful they are, are considered dead men walking. Only the renowned break through beyond their community becoming legendary. But between those diamonds, there’s a lot of rough.

Demographics

A great many are wizards or races best attuned to the physical and cultural need of the task.
Most races will have attributes that gave them an advantage as monster hunters, it all depends on what they’re chasing.

History


  Hunting was something villagers did on their own. Either by avoiding the issue, by forming religions around it and sacrificing others, or… trying to risk their lives facing off against it.

Eventually lords and kings begged for aid. After a while, the need for hunters grew more common and the tools of trade, more effective; streamlined until eventually a profession was formed.

As the hunts grew larger and more dangerous. Hunters would work even harder to adapt to the ability of their hunters eventually forming a craft.
