The Tears of Celestian Myth in The Azure Sea | World Anvil

The Tears of Celestian

In the early days following the Great Deluge, the Star Wanderer Celestian looked down upon all of the damage that had been wrought by the flooding of the lands. He looked down and saw the people homeless and distraught. He looked down and saw the animals without shelter or food. He looked down and saw the great forests levelled and the pristine deserts washed away.   Celestian loomed down over The Known World, his eyes burning brightly with anger and sadness at all that been lost. And he wept.   Fuelled by the strange mixture of grief and rage that he felt in his heart, the Tears of Celestian hardened as they fell and burst into angry flame. The smashed into the newly born world, sending out huge shockwaves of destruction. Great pillars of fire and dust arose wherever the Tears fell.   Horrified by what his grief had done, Celestian turned away from the world, hanging his head in shame. Slowly, he left, turning his back on what he had wrought, and he wanders still to this day amongst the stars, ever searching for a way to heal what he had done.   That is why, to this day, priests of the Star Wanderer bestow quiet and gentle kindness and mercy on all travellers, lest they suffer the same fate and cause harm to those they encounter.
