Blackpowder

Blackpowder is an alchemical compound made by mixing charcoal, saltpetre, and sulphur. It is highly explosive and therefore a controlled substance in some areas.
The most common use of blackpowder is in armaments, either for cannons on military naval vessels, or as an ignition source for firearms, such as those used by the Gunslinger class. It has also found use in construction and mining, and in the manufacturing of fireworks and flares.
The dangerous nature of blackpowder means it must be handled and transported carefully, and kept away from sources heat and static. Accidents involving blackpowder have costs many lives over the years. It keeps for many years, and is most commonly stored in airtight barrels to avoid damp.
There is a highly controlled trade network for blackpowder, and only officially sanctioned merchants and buyers can trade in it in many areas, such as the Cerulean Empire. This has lead to a growth in the underground black market for the compound.
