Willow Mistbrook
Legendary Archdruid of the Northern Wildlands
Overview
Willow Mistbrook, a Gnome archdruid and member of the legendary Keepers of the Dawn, is a figure of resilience, wisdom, and immense power. A survivor of the final battle against The Devourer, Willow’s life is a story of sacrifice, survival, and a deep connection to the natural world. Her journey spans decades of struggle, marked by her role as an emissary of Mab, her capture and corruption by Draga Zhao, and her eventual redemption through the actions of her closest allies.
Early Life
Willow was born in the Northern Wildlands, a rugged and untamed region known for its fierce natural beauty. She grew up immersed in the wild, learning the ways of druidic magic from the elders of her tribe. From a young age, Willow showed exceptional talent, earning the title of archdruid before she had even reached adulthood by gnomish standards. Her mastery of nature magic, combined with her unyielding Spirit, made her a beacon of hope for those who sought to protect the natural world from corruption and destruction.
The Tournament of Champions
When the Tournament of Champions was announced to select the heroes who would stand against The Devourer, Willow entered as the Northern Wildlands’ representative. Using her unparalleled control over nature, she overcame opponents who relied on brute strength and raw magical power. Her victory earned her a place among the Keepers of the Dawn, alongside:
- Rin Hunt (Tallos): The God-Touched paladin with time-control powers.
- Draga Zhao (Varrakin): The greatest mage of his time.
- Errias Redraven (Ithrin): The Tiefling warlock who wielded the cursed Venator grimoire.
Friendship with Errias Redraven
Among the Keepers, Willow developed a deep bond with Errias Redraven, whose quiet determination and tragic backstory resonated with her. She often served as his moral anchor, reminding him of the importance of fighting for life and balance, even as the Venator grimoire’s corruption took its toll on him. The two became inseparable allies, and Willow mourned deeply when Errias sacrificed himself during the final battle against The Devourer.
Distrust of the White Wolf
Unlike her companions, Willow was the only Keeper to openly distrust the White Wolf, the enigmatic figure who guided the group. Willow’s instincts, deeply attuned to the natural world, sensed something unnatural about the White Wolf, who later revealed herself as Holland Bray after the battle. Willow’s suspicions were validated when Holland betrayed the Keepers, using the binding spell against The Devourer to lift her own curse, which shattered Rin Hunt across space and time.
The Final Battle Against The Devourer
Willow barely survived the battle that claimed the lives of her closest companions. Gravely wounded and on the brink of death, she was saved by Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. Mab, acting out of her own interests, healed Willow and hid her from the now un-cursed Holland Bray, explaining that Willow alone could not defeat Holland. Mab convinced Willow that their only hope lay in waiting for a new generation of heroes to rise.
Years of Exile and Service to Mab
For the next 70 years, Willow served as Mab’s emissary, traveling the August Realms to observe events and quietly oppose Holland Bray’s schemes. Mab’s intervention, combined with Willow’s druidic magic, extended her lifespan far beyond that of a typical gnome, allowing her to endure the decades as a protector and guide.
During this time, Willow worked to maintain the delicate balance between nature and civilization, all while avoiding detection by Holland and her agents. Her role as Mab’s emissary left her isolated but steadfast, holding on to the hope that one day the heroes needed to defeat Holland would emerge.
Willow during the Third Age
Capture by Draga Zhao
When Draga Zhao reemerged from his disappearance, now embittered and corrupted by grief over Rin Hunt’s loss, he discovered that Willow had survived. Enraged by her alliance with Mab, Zhao led an invasion of the Northern Wildlands, determined to capture her. Willow escaped to Whiteparish, a small Dragonborn village where Drago of The Ring City Four was born. Tragically, Zhao destroyed the village and took Willow captive.
Corruption and Invasion of Tallos
Using the Black Diamond, Zhao corrupted Willow’s mind, forcing her to lead his army during the invasion of Tallos. Under the diamond’s influence, Willow’s powers were twisted, and she became a reluctant tool of destruction. Despite her enslavement, she retained faint flashes of her former self, enough to sow seeds of rebellion within her heart.
Jewel of the Wild’s Sacrifice
Foreseeing Willow’s plight, Jewel of the Wild, a fellow druid and close ally, allowed herself to be captured alongside Willow. Jewel knew that she would be used by the corrupted Willow to see the future, but she also saw this as the only path to save her friend. Through her visions and quiet guidance, Jewel worked to weaken the Black Diamond’s hold on Willow, setting the stage for her eventual redemption.

"Willow is the roots beneath the earth—steady, unyielding, and vital. She’s faced storms that would shatter the strongest of us and still stands, her spirit as unbroken as the first tree to ever grow. She’s my sister, my teacher, and my friend. I’ve seen her heal the land with a touch and shatter armies with a word, yet it’s her kindness that stays with me the most. No matter how dark things get, Willow reminds me that there’s always a way to grow toward the light."
— Jewel of the Wild, on her frienship with Willow Mistbrook.
