Rin Hunt
Savior of the Realm
Overview
Rin Hunt, a paladin of Savras turned God-Touched, is one of the most revered figures in the history of the August Realms. Known as the strongest mortal to have ever lived, her time-control powers made her nigh undefeatable in battle and a pivotal figure in the fight against The Devourer during the Age of Calamity. Though her life was marked by personal tragedy and sacrifice, Rin's legacy continues to shape the August Realms, both through her actions and the powerful amulet that bears her essence.
Early Life
Born in the kingdom of Tallos, Rin Hunt grew up with a strong sense of duty and faith in Savras, the god of fate. Her early years were spent training as a paladin, where she quickly rose through the ranks due to her unwavering resolve and skill in battle.
At the age of 21, Rin married a Tallosian merchant, with whom she had a daughter, Marion Hunt. Her idyllic life was shattered when Marion’s father was killed by The Devourer’s army during a supply run to Ring City. This loss fueled Rin’s determination to protect the realms and fight against the rising darkness of the Age of Calamity.
The God-Touched and Time Control
Rin’s life changed forever when she became God-Touched, chosen by Savras to wield divine power. Her gift manifested as the ability to rewind time, allowing her to undo events that had just occurred. Whether in the heat of battle or in moments of dire peril, Rin’s power enabled her to bend fate itself, turning impossible situations in her favor.
This ability made her nearly invincible in combat, and she quickly earned a reputation as the strongest mortal the August Realms had ever seen. Her mastery over time elevated her to a legendary status that few could match.
The Tournament of Champions
During the Age of Calamity, Rin was chosen to represent Tallos in the Tournament of Champions, a contest designed to find the greatest heroes to combat The Devourer. Her victory in the tournament not only proved her unparalleled strength but also earned her the role of leader of the Keepers of the Dawn, the team assembled to stop The Devourer.
The Keepers of the Dawn
The Keepers of the Dawn were the four champions who fought to end The Devourer’s reign of terror:
- Rin Hunt (Tallos): Paladin and leader, wielding the power of time.
- Draga Zhao (Varrakin): The most powerful wizard alive, known for his intellect and magical prowess.
- Errias Redraven (Ithrin): A tiefling warlock with a cursed book containing Venator Fey magic.
- Willow Mistbrook (Northern Lands): A gnome archdruid with deep ties to nature.
Rin also grew close to Jewel of the Wild, a mysterious fortune teller who fought alongside the Keepers. The two developed a bond akin to sisterhood, with Jewel often guiding Rin and providing emotional support.
The Final Battle Against The Devourer
The climactic battle outside Alvethastion was meant to be Rin’s final stand. The original plan was for Rin to lend her time-control powers to Draga Zhao, who would cast the spell to bind The Devourer in time. However, Holland Bray, who sought to use the spell to break her own curse, sabotaged their efforts.
As the spell was being prepared, Holland attacked Zhao and redirected the magic. Rin, unprepared for this betrayal, was helpless as the amplified spell unraveled her existence, shattering her across space and time. Though the spell succeeded in freezing The Devourer, the cost was unimaginable.
The Aftermath
Rin’s sacrifice left a profound void in the August Realms. Jewel of the Wild, devastated by the loss of her closest companion, became the next God-Touched of Savras. Determined to preserve Rin’s memory, Jewel used her newfound powers to gather fragments of Rin’s essence and imbue them into her red amulet.
The amulet, entrusted to the village of Alvethastion, became a relic of immense significance. Passed down through generations, it eventually came into the possession of Nimue, a member of the Ring City Four.
Legacy
Rin’s influence endured long after her physical form was lost:
The Amulet
The red amulet, imbued with fragments of Rin’s memory and power, became a vital tool in uncovering the truth behind Holland Bray. Through the amulet, Rin was able to guide Nimue and The Ring City Four, providing insight and warnings from across space and time.
Reunion with Draga Zhao
The amulet also allowed Rin to reach Draga Zhao, who had descended into a destructive rampage following her loss. Her voice and presence through the amulet brought him back from the brink, convincing him to abandon his path of destruction and work toward healing the August Realms
"Rin was more than a hero; she was a force of nature, unyielding and radiant, like the first light of dawn piercing through the darkest night. She gave everything to save this world, and yet, even now, her presence lingers in the winds of time, guiding us. To me, she wasn’t just a friend or a sister—she was the heart of the August Realms. And we are all better for having known her, even if it was only for a fleeting moment in the grand weave of fate."
— Jewel of the Wild, reflecting on Rin Hunt's legacy.
