The Terun Star

You see that light in the sky? They say that's where we come from. That we erupted from the shroud of darkness and pierced through the veil. That's why that light remains directly south of us. Upward and onward are we. So if you get lost you can find that light in the sky, and know where you came from and where you're going all at the same time.
  • Drunk old man on the street talking to me about The Terun Star like I'm 6.
  • The Terun Star sits in the sky above the southern horizon, and is marked by a wide horizontal flare. It gives off a bright blue hue and those who spend time observing it, claim to see dark purples and occasionally bright pinks. Unlike other stars, the Terun Star is affixed to its spot in the sky, making it useful for travelers to figure out which direction they're facing.   Previous mythology surrounding the star believed it to be a perforation in the Shroud of Stars, caused by humanity's emergence into existence. Some thought this made humanity's look like an accident with no purpose. Others believed it to mean humanity was an almost divine inevitability, created by itself - a prime mover itself unmoved. Because of these conflicting thoughts and schools, it was relatively easy for another party to redefine the star and its part in humanity's creation myth in a way that appealed to a wider range of people.   The Structuralists claimed through their scripture known as The Articulation, that the Terun Star was not as a hole - absent of meaning - but as a physical place filled with purpose and intention. In this mythology, the Terun Star is home of the Wrights, or as some scholars argue, a manifestation of The Wright's presence. Regardless, it is from here that the earth was molded with raw resources and populated with men and women, perhaps constructed in The Wrights' own image. The gods then set the earth free into the heavens where they can observe humanity from a distance, seeing if they can tame the earth with the gifts and talents granted them. In this myth humanity is given freedom as well as a purpose, one that includes a great overseer to appease and aspire to.   The Terun Star also plays a role in construction. In Bellweather, all homes are required by Structuralist doctrine to face east. The front door opens to the morning sun, and southern facing windows open to the Terun Star. If one were to trace a line from both the Sun and The Terun Star, their intersection would form a right angle. This point in a Structuralist's home is a sacred point, and is where the fireplace is built - metaphorically lit by these two celestial bodies.
