Kinanen Caverns

A vast and complex cave system, Kinanen Caverns extend from the Soshon Mountain to deep under the Grand Hai Forest. The exploration of the caverns have been limited due to fear of the dangers hidden its dark recesses. Thankfully several frontiersmen throughout history have risen to the challenge and documented their findings to inspire future explorers. The most famous of these the was great Chronicler of the Unknown, "Hard Time" Hanny Frock.   For some, particularly those who are devout in the Structuralist religion, the Kinanen Caverns are considered a dark and horrid place, a seedy underbelly where the abominations of Nature roam free and unfettered. Who knows what horrors lurk in those shadows, and what corruption awaits to corrupt humanity's soul.

Fauna & Flora

In the sunniest areas of the cave support a wide variety of plants including small thin trees that are positioned under shafts of light. Thick carpets of lime green moss coat cave floors near waterfalls and streams. Kinamen Caverns is home to a wide variety of animals, some which live deep in the caves, and other large beasts that use the caverns for shelter between hunts. Few have been deep into the caverns where light cannot penetrate, but those who have describe bizarre amphibious creatures without eyes, and fish with translucent skin so their insides are clearly visible. Many unique plants and animals call this place home, somehow thriving in a place considered to be inhospitable. Documenting these species could further unlock the secrets of the natural world, which largely remains a mystery to humanity.

Tempten Shrub

These bushy shurbs, also called 'Frock Cuts', have sharp red-veined leaves and are unique to this area. In the warmer months they bloom orange and yellow flowers that signal to local wildlife, such as the SoBrass Bat, that it is now safe to eat the Frock Cut berries. These berries carry the Frock Cut's seeds and are toxic when consumed outside of the blooming season.Tempten Shrubs gained their "Frock Cut" alias when people heard about a particularly difficult trek Hard Time Hanny Frock had traversing through a large patch of Tempten Shrubs.

Gilleyes

the plants change as one explores deeper into the Kiinanen Cavern. In the twilight area of the cave system, where sunlight is dim and diffused, there are plants called Gilleyes. Gilleyes are a flat leafy plant that thrives near the streams that run through the caverns system. These Gilleyes don't have a typical root system and spawn through spore openings in their leaves(which give them the appearance of eyes). Some explorers confused Gilleyes for a type of massive cabbage because of the leaves similar appearance. But when they cut into the "cabbage" the discovered its bulk belonged to the large stone the Gilleyes had grown over.

Fungi and Algae

In the darkest areas of the cave, where sunlight is nearly nonexistent, explorers like Hanny Frock describe a strange and uncanny variety of fungi. Long stringy beads of fungus hang from small cliffs, and bulbous caps burst from the cracks of stone. Hanny Frock also details some sort of purple algae found in pools of stagnant water, which give off a violet glow, giving the cave an eerie and unsettling feeling.

Soshon Brass Bats

These bats have a brassy colored fur that appears to reflect light. They live in the twilight area of the cave, and their roosts are home to an incredible variety of fungus. Explorers believe these must be cultivated and tested for possible medicinal properties, but none have been up to the task. Soshon Bats are violent predators that prey upon small mammals like squirels, hares, and vermin. There are stories of large colonies of bats feeding on larger animals like goats and wild cats, which is why humans tend to give them a wide birth.
