Mirad

Mirad is a habitable moon of the gas giant Kannal, in the Makto subsystem, and one of the two habitable moons of Kannal, alongside Eridus. Mirad has no native human population, but was colonized around 10,000 years before the present day by the Great Sildor Empire, and later the Nakaali nations of Tsavi. In the 3rd millennium AF, parts of it was also colonized by the nations of Eridus, namely Asharia, the Watabowi Empire, and the Korsan Empire. Upon The Fall in the 36th century however, these colonies were abandoned by their colonizing nations on Eridus, Mishru, and Tsavi, leaving behind scattered Eridan, Sildor, and Nakaali populations, either segregating themselves in separate nations or merging into shared cultures.   Mirad, with a surface gravity of only 0.7G, is renowned the system over for its gargantuan plantlife, with mangrove-like trees regularly reaching heights of over 60 meters, with the tallest tree on the moon reaching over 100 meters in height. Its mountains too are some of the highest in the system, with Mount Saynaya reaching a height of 15km. The average surface temperature is 20°C, yielding a temperate to tropical variation of climates, with small tundra and desert climates dotting the surface. Mirad was described by Eridans, Nakaali, and Sildors alike to be a paradise world, where crops grew larger and more quickly anywhere else (with the possible exception of Anaria). The moon did have its challenges however, notably violent hurricanes. In addition, while the fauna on land was rarely harmful to humans, this was not true with the waters, with the open oceans filled with massive, deadly marine reptiles, not least of which being mosasaurs.   Mirad's soil also contains specific compounds, as well as a network of fungal mycelia stretching across the continents. This, combined with the moon's lower gravity and human intervention, allows fruit and crop plants to grow massive in size, with crops like bananas and apples able to grow twice as large as they could elsewhere. The moon is home to a human species known as the Kuvanu, who built many different stone and bronze age civilizations before Sildor (and later Eridan) colonization, the most famous example of which being a massive temple complex known to later Kuvanu peoples as Kissir Kuli.

Ecosystem

Mirad's ecosystem consists of plants similar to Earth during the Mesozoic Era, but having grown gigantic in size due to the significantly lower gravity. Fauna are also larger, with relatively large animals able to fly with ease. The moon is dominated by rainforests, though deserts and tundra also persist in certain regions. The seas too are filled with life, with the moon's waters dominated by marine reptiles and ammonites from the Cretacious Period.

History

In the 2nd millennium BF Mirad was slowly colonized by the Great Sildor Empire, administering select territories from their capital on Mishru. Due to its distance from Fara though, most Sildor colonization efforts were focused on Anaria. Around 1,000 years later, other regions were colonized by the different nations on Tsavi, with the Sildor and Nakaali populations largely ignoring one another. By the mid-3rd millennium AF the rest of the territories on Mirad were colonized by select nations on Eridus, with the whole moon now being claimed by as many as 9 different powers. 1,000 years afterward, when the spacefaring empires fell, these colonies were abandoned and left to fend for themselves. Most of these colonies were able to survive and even thrive independently, oweing to the moon's largely forgiving nature and amenable climate for human habitation and agriculture.

Tourism

During periods where regular interplanetary travel can be achieved, tourists flock to Mirad to witness its breathtaking natural environment, particularly the megaflora and fauna.
