The Kingdom of Bal'Ar

Eleann's eastern human neighbor. It was originally one of the provinces of Eleann, but gained it's independence soon after the Dalis-Naazey family wars.

Demography and Population

The population of Bal'ar consists mostly of Humans. As shortly after the war for independence, the Dalis population were either exiled or purged. Nowadays, the Dalis are more accepted and there is tiny minority of them living near the Eleann border. Besides them, thanks to the proximity of the mountain range of Ba and Dor'Untha, there is a small minority of Zaanay Dragonfolk. And more recently, a very small minority of Catfolk of Nala-Nala has arrived with their exploration caravans.

Territories

Large portions of Bal'Ar is covered in vast open and windy plains, often covered in tall slippery grass. This grass, combined with the near constant winds, has birthed the balarean tradition of windriding. To the north are the twin forests of that surrounds the norther area of the capital Elobatar. Then, the northern you go, the less fertile the lands get, until you reach the cold and inhospitable deserts of Deadlands. In the west the Bal'Ar-Eleann border is divided by the massive mountain ranges of Oulankhil, or "The Spine of Yniad".   In the east, a great mountains of Bal and Dor'Untha. Behind them are the highlands of Karanassos. Finally in the south, the fertile grasslands slowly turns to savannas and eventually we get to the arid, hot deserts of Salamander Lands.

Military

Having been so long under near constant threat from the west. Bal'Ar has stayed under martial law for nearly 120 years straight. Nearly all citizens are conscripted to the Vardian Shield, the army. This has made the Balarians loyal and highly militaristic. The reigning Bal-Alaan is also expected to lead the armies from front and the current queen is no exception.

Foreign Relations

Being fiercely independent, they look at their neighbours with careful suspicion. Aside from certain groups that has had the opportunity to settle in, the country has remained in relative isolation for a long time and has only recently starting open up their borders. The relations with Eleann Empire remained tense for most of it's history, lately the queen or the "Bal-Alaan" Valhilda has brought the two nations together like never before since Bal-Ar gained independence.
