Saah, The City of Knowledge

Saah was one of the great cities of Nay-Gissar and is controlled by the Great Family of Naat'Hees.   While the city was not largest or the most populous one, it has an important historical significance. It is build upon the foundations and around the old city of Hsaan. Which was considered to be one of, if not the oldest standing city in the world. Something that the House of Naat'Hees was really proud of.   Known also as the City of Knowledge, as it houses the fabled Red Library. Which is famed for their great repository of pre-Cataclysm books, manuscripts and old technology.
Some say that this is the oldest city the cold-bloods created. Other even say that this is the oldest city in the entire world. I think the truth is somewhere in-between.   -Avrilian Khand

Demographics

As it is known to be a scholarly hub, Saah houses students and scholars from myriad of cultures. Outside of them, Saah has a sizable minority of Humans from northern Oroii, Dalis and Sturians.

Government

Like most other large citites of Nay-Gissar. The Great Families hold the absolute power. The city-council and officials are all Naat'Hees members.

Infrastructure

Coming from the sea, the most visible structure was the ancient red Stormwall port, a remnant from the old Hsaan. It was a multi-storied harbor complex. Numerous balconies, towers and bridges dotted across it's walls. These bridges lead outward to large decked shipyards, where taller ships could anchor and stay safe from storms.   Saah's most recognizable features were it's Fii'saan domes. Huge structures made from red granite, steel and glass. The spherical buildings were built on top of low pyramid-like base, with metal frames that supported the main structure, because of this, they were often likened to massive glass flowers. Most of their exterior walls were made of some kind of hardened glass bricks and inside there were residential dwellings, gardens and even forests.

History

After Hsaan was mostly razed to the ground and it's former Great Family all but destroyed in the pre-Cataclysm war. Naat'Hees rose from obscurity and managed to take control of the local area. So succesful they were, that were granted a place in the Haas'a'Suus and they were granted the responsibility of Rememberance. Then, with time, Saah rose from the ashes of Hsaan.
“They want our knowledge, our treasures and our technology. But we deny it from them. They will not get them. No matter who is helping them. They will be slain, they will crushed, they will be bloodied and driven away. Saah will survive, as it always has.”   -Zhuur’Vas’Naat’Hees. Just before the invasion by Geedas and the Hridi.

The Razing of Saah
In the year 1574 of New Azyrian Calendar. Saah was mostly destroyed by the combined forces of Naazey from Geedas and their Hridi and Human mercenary allies.
The reason for the attack seem to have been the acquisition of multiple Cubes of Tcarathar located in Saah. One of which was used as a power source for the Saah's "Dhaash" shield that was raised when army appeared on the gates.   The attack was preluded when about two weeks before, when the contact to Geedas was nearly completely lost. All far-scribe messages were left unanswered. All Saahian and Vaalian spies severed their contacts and every and all merchant caravans sent to Geedas had seemingly been lost, with Geedas's guildmaster sending a cryptic message where she told that they had all left the city.   A scouting teams were then sent by Naaz and Saah, who then spotted an army consisting of three Gjaan* was leaving the Geedasian controlled area. These scouting parties were found and subsequently killed, but they managed to send a message back to Saah. Four more scouting teams were then dispatched, yet they only managed find footprints, few dead Geedas soldiers and a set of huge tracks. All which ended just few miles outside of Geedas territory. The army had just seemingly vanished to thin air.
Naaz, the closest city to Geedas was immediately put under high alarm.   Eight days later. The entire army materialized out of no-where outside Saah's city gates. At the same time, a series of explosions shook the city, while crazed cultists of Aintar began cutting down civilians and soldiers alike. The Reverend Matriarch Zhuur’Vas ordered the city's ancient shield generator to be activated and the Udainan power suits to be awakened.   Before Saahian defence forces "The Sreto-Guard", could be fully organized, things got worse.
Dozens of portals, opened by the cultists spew forth thousands of Hridi-insectoid invaders and their monstrous beasts. Outside, the invaders rolled in their massive siege Ziggurat, a near mythical siege engine. Hundreds of Naazey's were dancing on it's steps, while seven Geedas Matriarchs sacrificed one of their own and then each other in a gory spectacle, thus activating the weapon. Pulling destructive energy from the soul-world itself. A massive beam of molten, energized soul-stuff blasted though the shield, destroying the habitation Fii'saan behind it.   Meanwhile the power suits and the army made an effective resistance. Though to their horror, they noticed that the Naazey they were fighting, were not just professional soldiers, but also their young, their women and the elderly. That they were fighting Geedas in it's entirety.   In the chaos, the enemy commander Rhandrax and her retinue and a small elite force manage to fight their way into to the central Fii'saan dome. Where the Reverend Matriarch, the city command and the shield generator was located. It is not fully understood what happened next, but soon after, the shield collapsed. A team sent there found traces of desperate battle, a charred giant of man and finally Rhandrax dead, next to the badly wounded Matriarch Zhuur’Vas.
She had claimed that the cubes were now in better hands and she had confidence that "they" would would do the right thing, something that she could not.
It is said that a mysterious a party, that had been seen accompanying the Matriarch earlier that day, had taken them when they vanished from the city.   After hours of grueling and desperate battle. Saahian forces had managed to evacuate over third of the civilians through the port. Yet, the losses were horrendous. Only half of the suits remained and the Sreto-Guards were already preparing for the last-stand. Then suddenly, a wave of screams crossed over the invading forces. The Hridi became erratic and disorganized, even starting to attack their allies. The invading Naazey pulled back, trying to defend the Ziggurat. And all the while, the smaller human force was indiscriminately looting the city.
Captain Yuu'Hees, the leading commander saw an opportunity here and mounted a last-chance offence against the Ziggurat. He and his team, using Geedasian armor, managed to infiltrate the Ziggurat, while the Naazey and Hridi were at each other's throats. What they found inside was disturbing. Ziggurat's insides were covered in a pulsing fleshy tissue and the Reverend Matriarch herself was assimilated into her throne, with an arcane and advanced mechanism bolted into her head. After releasing her from her torment. The buzzing sound everyone had been hearing immediately stopped. Outside, the Hridi were already fleeing and the Naazey dropped their weapons. Most of them looking as if they had awaken from a dream.
Aftermath
While the attack technically failed, the city was now in utter ruin.
Thanks to the Hridian attacks beasts, almost 60% of the city was reduced to rubble. Thousands were dead and the rest were running. Only eleven of the power suits now remained and the means to create more was lost. Possibly forever. And in the consequent chaos, three of them disappeared. Most likely stolen by the humans.   However, the Red Library was spared from the worst damage and the Reverend Matriarch survived from her wounds. And due to Geedas losing their last Reverend Matriach, Zhuur’Vas was given Geedas as her dominion. Giving her people a place to live.
Saah would survive, but it would take a long time for them to rebuild.   (*One Gjaan equals approximately three Roman legions.)
