Amaran, The Shining Star of Dalis

May the gods shine upon this glorious domain! A city of wonder and luster. A city where one can be safe and make their duties. A city of a million loyal subjects await thy command, my lord. Grant us your blessing!   -Steward Karmilian to the newly crowned Emperor Erensul Il’Davirnar.
The mighty capital of The Second Eleann Empire.   It is easily one the largest and oldest cities in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor Erensul Il’Davirnar the Fourth and it is the political and commercial center of the entire Empire.   It is a bustling and intricate city of sounds, colors and people. Indeed, with a population of over a million people, Amaran is often said to resemble a hive of ants instead of a normal city.
So massive is this city, that not even the local guard know every streets or corners. As throughout the years, the city has been build on top of itself, always adding more into it, creating an interlinked maze of levels, buildings and alleyways.

It is even said, that one clever enough can find his way from the deepest pits all the way to the Emperors quarters. Though none would even dare to do so, unless to invoke the wrath of the feared Celestial Guard.
The shining jewel of Ardean? More like a rotten den of gilded thieves and rampant corruption.
But if you are ruthless enough, it'll make a fine home.
  -Unknown
Amaran is a massive city in every sense. It can be seen from many miles away, as it's central "Nest", or "Pardian Tower" rises up and above the city like a man-made mountain. Inside this inner city, two hundred thousand people live.   Around it, Ten Ring-Districts; Yyrdaas, El'anar, The Low Ruuthen, Vaalsan, Merchantry, Jaan the First, Jaan the Second, Iinasian Hights, Turnas and Kingtaker. While most of the inner circles are just meant for upperclass citizens, many are open for commoners and some have dedicated use. For example, El'anar houses the temples of learning, the college and the Amaranian Library. While Merchantry being close to both to the docks and the main road, has become the main market and plaza of commerce.   Each Ring-District is covered by a protective wall and the areas between the walls is where the common people live.   North, a great Harusian Boulevard slices through the city northwards, from the Imperial Palace walls to the outer walls. Outer walls that have long since lost it's meaning, as the the city spread miles outwards from it. There lies the "Wall District" Originally dozens of small villages that sprouted outside of the city and along the Old Ruby Road. These villages over time merged together and into Amaran itself.   Behind them rises the colossus that is the "Aureliain Ring" or the "Golden Circle", a gangantuan and ancient aqueduct, that brings fresh water from the mountains of Yaniad Spines. Following and around the Circle are famous farmlands of Ilaian. Around a million acres of Denian Wheat and all kinds different crops to feed masses.

The Undercity
Under the city proper, beneath bustling streets and crowds lies the Undercity. Or the 'neathcity as it's more commonly known as. Buried under the streets and avenues, a labyrinth of crumbling hallways and buildings, crossing over sewers and underground canals. Over the years Amaran has been build on top of itself, leaving the undesirable rabble under itself. Something that has happened for thousands of years now.   While near the surface, there are some fortified settlements, from which brave, or foolish treasure hunters and the city guards often launch expeditions and raids from. It is mostly a lawless area, governed by many cruel criminal gangs and other misfits, that have divided the city into their territories. Here the unfortunate, criminals and the deprave seek refuge. It is a dark and miserable place, aside from the occasional bonfire, abandoned well and cracks in the surface that bring light for the people living there.   Yet life persist. As between all the collapsed buildings and foundations, small towns have been build by the people living there.   Yet you can go even deeper, to a place sometimes called "The Pits". There everything is older and more dangerous. These are foundations of the city, which are crisscrossed by an ancient maze of forgotten pathways and endless corridors. Sometimes coming across a larger openings where you can find monolithic, building wide support pillars made from an unknown, nearly indestructible material, that presumably keep the superstructures above intact.   No one truly knows what dwells here, but here, the air is stale and heavy, the grounds is often poisonous. And only the most desperate and insane of people come and live here. For there are unspeakable beings living in there. That, along with the oppressive darkness, makes people who linger there for far too long- to go irreversibly mad.   Yet fortune favors the brave, and sometimes archaeologists and fool-hardy adventurers go to the deepest depths to look for riches and ancient artefacts. And are often never to be seen again

Demographics

Like all places, humans are the most common sight in the city and mostly the Dalis occupy the most powerful positions of it's upper echelons. It is a highly cosmopolitan city to it's fullest extend, a city where people from all the races from all over the world congregate.

Government

While the Emperor holds the absolute power. Around him is the Amarian Triumvirate that consist of; The High Priest of the Dragon Cult, City's Captain General and the Emperor's personal confidant. they help the Emperor on macro level logistics. And then beneath them are the District Principals who manage their Ring-Districts on their level. Who then answer to the Triumvirate.

Defences

Amaran's defences are formidable, if somewhat unexperienced. This is due to the fact that no one has actually attacked the city in over a thousand years.

History

Being an ancient city, it has been sacked multiple times and after the Dalian Cataclysm, it stayed in a state of disrepair for nearly a four hundred years, later being rebuild after the capital was moved back to Amaran by the Emperor Urien Ventalas.

"Bah! Oroii's jungles wish it was this hazardous for humans! The ungodly creatures that live in the pits would make even the fiercest Maw-Serpents whimper in fear. This is why the Dalis sent us here. Only the damned live here." -Garett, an Undergate Warden
